If Haula and Palat are still here next year they cannot be anywhere other than the fourth line. If they are in the top six then our chances of even making the playoffs will be in question.

Even if the Devils have a couple of bad contracts (Meier and Palat) at least so far, the Devils are not in any type of cap trouble as a result. And down the road when it does have impact on the cap, any bad contracts can be traded off like the routine practice in the NHL today.

It literally has impact on the cap right now, although one could argue what that really means I guess

So there is a chance that we might have Siegenthaler (even an 80% Jonas)....

Would be really nice to have Pesce and Siegenthaler in the game, even if we can't have Luke. Safe to say Luke is not back until we extend the series. That early pre-season shoulder injury i can presume came back at some point and he's dealing with it?

Is Lazar fully cooked? Is he just the odd man out or is there a lingering injury that makes him not even thought of as a choice here.

Palat will not be traded because his value is in the post season which we are expected to be in annually at this point. Also because Keefe loves him. You can't replace 50 playoff goals. He also had 15 goals so even though it's not 6 million dollars worth of goals, he still scores. If it's actually hindering the Devils ability to improve the team and sign players etc, then I'd be concerned. But that is not the case.

To be honest I really only see Tatar, Bastian, Lazar, Dowling gone. Allen is 50/50, and as far as I'm concerned we should sign Dumolin tomorrow and worry about the log jam later of Left handed D.

Our trade chips are 2 young Dmen, some picks and Gritsyuk is in the picture for one of the open spots.

Daniel Sprong is a flawed player but he can usually pot ~15 goals.

Sprong hasn't scored yet for the Devils.

If you look back at his career, he's largely been inconsistent. Even watching him he looks like what he is. A guy that flashes, but ultimately is lacking

I agree. Their GM basically telling the fan base he’s gone in two years isn’t doing Quinn any favors.

I disagree. You saying that doesn't make it true.
A lot of fans are talking like this team is a disaster and needs to be torn down.

Tatar, Bastian, Dowling and Lazar can all hit the bricks. That's approx. 6 mill in space.

Haula has a year left. Toast or not, 1 year at 3.5 mill can easily fit into the cap space. And I am not convinced he is toast anyway. For what be brings this time of year. For how much better he is at LW, and the fact he is entering a contract year, I'm fine with him next season. There is a difference in a team that is just simply not that good, and a team that underachieved. Being we have seen the potential of this team and the players on the roster, some of these guys simply underachieved.

The Devils have 11 signed forwards for next season.

Jack, Nico, Bratt, Timo, Palat, Noesen, Haula, Cotter, Glass, MacDermid, Gritsyuk (you have to assume he will take a spot).

Assuming MacDermid is in the press box. We have 10 signed guys it will not he hard to find 2 or 3 more depth guys. A couple might come from within (Foote/Lacahnce) and through we cna expect Casey and/or Nemec to be dealt for a win now type forward.

YES, we get it Palat is overpaid. So is half the league. Until his contract actually impacts the Devils from making moves it's really not a big deal. He isn't useless. He had 15 goals and played well with Jack and Nico at times and was huge ws the Rangers in the playoffs two years ago. That's where his value is. He wins puck battles along the boards and has won.



I think it's bogus to consider moving Hamilton (the team is a disaster every single time he gets hurt) or Palat or Haula.

Add a few depth forwards and use assets to get a solid middle/top 6 winger this summer. It's well within cap means. Especially with how easy it is to maneuver around it.

Pretty sure it's not the same shoulder.

I mean, this is a 40pt NHLer in the past.

Dowling plays C and Sprong is basically Holtz. They flash every once in a while and look good but are largely irrelevant and wouldn't be in the lineup for most playoff teams. Having said that I'd rather run with Sprong than Bastian.
