What the f***…this guy couldn’t have been older than late 50’s, early 60’s?
His old man died of cancer just a little over two years older than Ray was now.

I’m not sure if his health was in decline and he was ill, and it was just kept private outside of family or if this really was sudden. I wonder if he was still making regular appearances around the Wild’s day to day operations.

Truly awful news to hear. Ray seemed like quite a personality, and it seems that many in the hockey media are sharing that sentiment. He did a lot of good things in his tenure here, and will certainly be remembered for the lottery wins. I hope we still have that gif of him cackling before we found out we won the Jack lottery. It was priceless.

RIP Ray, thanks for your time here in Nj.

In a sad turn of news and insanely sudden - RIP to Ray Shero who passed

Oh my. :( Think what you may, but the couple times I ran into him, he couldn't have been nicer. Here's a link to a post I wrote from 3 years ago. You need to click on the link to read my reply -->

And here's the picture from the concourse and also a signed puck from the Global Series in Sweden. Again, the man couldn't have been nicer.

RIP Ray. :(

He strikes me as very genuinely happy to have taken that picture with you.

He was. :) We spoke for what seemed like 10-15 minutes ... it was probably more like 5. It was right after Palmieri had gotten hurt in practice. It was also the day Wedgewood was traded to Arizona but that was never discussed, so I guess I wasn't truly in the loop. ;)

The posts whining about the negative posts are worse than the negative posts themselves. I know I am now whining about those whining about the negative posts lol but this is a discussion board. You don’t have to agree with every post on here and everyone has a right to voice their opinions and concerns no matter how much you may disagree with them. I enjoy hearing everyone’s opinions and not just listening to the collective groupthink. At the end of the day we are all Devils fans and want what’s best for the team. Who cares if someone is being negative on here? If it’s that big of a deal just ignore them on here or literally don’t engage with them. It’s a very simple approach.

He will always be fondly remembered as the GM who had the stones to add Ben Lovejoy. Rest in peace and I hope he didn’t suffer. He seemed like a genuinely nice person .
He also had me the moment he chose Nico over Nolan and it worked out; unfortunate Patrick had the migraine issues, but I thought hed be better by a mile

He was the start of our culture and identity shift and Ill always appreciate him for that. Very large shoes to fill and Id say he did just fine

He didn’t know how to build a defense but he knew how to read people and he oversaw a very good drafting process. He avoided anchor contracts (can you imagine if he’d given Hall an 8 year $80 million dollar or more deal) and he didn’t get destroyed in any trades. A mixed bag of a GM but there have been far worse ones.
