Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part VI

We need a center dont we !??/ Kuznetsov anyone !?

I will add I expect him to sign in Carolina or WSH

Kuznetsov would be ineligible for the playoffs since he wasn't on a team's reserve list before the trade deadline. Not sure the Caps would want to disrupt their locker room with how well this season has gone. Montreal could make a little sense, I forget if they had been using Kirby Dach at center or wing before he got injured.

Kuznetsov isnt the same Kuznetsov as he was in his good days. He wasnt even the same Kuznetsov after he was not the same Kuznetsov as he was before. Anyway we cant add him to the roster now because of rules.

Not being snarky. Serious question. In your definition of stealing a series mean.... the goalie can't have lost 1-2 games?
Of course usually when a goalie steals a series it goes 6/7 but how can you steal a series if you are up 3-1 and let them back in?

I don't know, a lot of the west was nothing special that year.

Our toughest challenge may have been either Detroit or Colorado in what was Roy's last season.

Somehow both of those teams got eliminated in round one upsets.

Dallas would have been tough. Anaheim and Giguere took out two of those teams en route to the finals and the Cinderella Wild upset Colorado in round one, beat an okay Vancouver team in 7 games in round two and were swept out of the WCF by the Ducks.

I don't see any way we get eliminated by any of the other western playoff teams from that year. I can't even see any of those teams making the finals, barring them having a goaltender on their own Giguere run. So it would have been the same situation.

The Canucks? The Blues? The Wild? The Oilers?
I dunno just didn’t seem concerned about them pulling out the win at any point in the series. But it’s 20 years ago so I don’t remember it totally

i dont think broduer was the reason we won the 2012 rangers series. i know its an unpopular opinion on here but i said it before if that 2003 devils team faced off against someone else in the west i dont think they win the cup that year. yeah the 95 series were great but that was like his second year in the league the other 18 years he didn't steal us a series?
The forecheck won that series, my god was it beautiful.

Mainly positive in the sense our collective disdain for Carolina is one of the few things that unites us all.
It’s just like when the aliens invade in the movie Independence Day and the humans of the world have to unite to defeat a common enemy.

We don’t let the vibes get too high around here.

You know damn well the team could win the Cup and there would still be posters in the post game thread saying “yeah but they got really lucky. They won three games in OT and the Deserve to Win Meter shows they actually shouldn’t have even won the second round series.”

I mean, it did happen (not that literally but the bitching after winning the cup). Can't remember if it was here though. People were bitching about Marty not winning the Conn Smythe when they literally just won the cup

That just added in to the whole 'the media and the hockey establishment hates the Devils' meme.

I am old enough I had to endure the Mickey Mouse comment in real time. I saw the original butt fumble (Joe Pisarchick handing the ball off to Larry Csonka's hip). Haven't you seen any success for the Braves or the Devils at least?
I was too young to remember the Braves' 95 WS. The more recent WS was nice but honestly I haven't been much of a baseball fan since I was a teenager. Atlanta United had a couple of good years before they fell victim to the same Atlanta curses and that was kind of fun. GT football has had a few good years here and there. You graciously didn't bring up the highlight of the Falcons' existence.

I wish I was a UGA fan but alas, I was raised to hate them. No sustained winners in this household.
I’ve always been curious about this. I remember the “draft” we held and you came over. Did you consider becoming a WPG fan? Or did you completely drop fandom of that franchise and immediately move on? How long did it take you to be fully invested in and put your emotional wellbeing at stake with the Devils?
I had already dealt with months/years of residents from the great city of Winnipeg telling me I didn't deserve to be a hockey fan because I say y'all, do that well was poisoned long before the move was official.

I was going to root for the Devils and the Predators, but that 2012 season was so fun it sold me all the way. I had never experienced a playoff win in my NHL fandom before, much less a finals run with a likeable group.

This team has less points than the WC1 Ottawa Senators. They would be out of a playoff spot in the west conference.

I’m gonna wager on five games or less against the Canes.

Greatest forecheck in a series I've ever seen. A friend of mine who's a rags fan texted me between the 2nd & 3rd period of Game 5. I can't recall exactly, but I'm guessing the Devils forecheck disappeared a bit in the 2nd period? Anyone?

It's easy to shit on this season after all the losses they piled up in 2025. Still have to remember they are missing their best offensive forward , offensive defensman & arguably their best shutdown defensman (arguably it is Siegs, Pesce or Kovacevic).

We never got to see how the Devils would have looked with an extra forward or two after the trade deadline with Jack in the lineup. They just need 1 more point and we can stop stressing so much. We will atleast get some playoff hockey when it was looking like a month or so ago that it might of not happen. The team atleast stabilized and didn't fall out of the picture. You never know what can happen when in the playoffs, it's always exciting regardless of what place your team is in the standings.

Saw this pop up on Reddit, I believe it's bs but one of the few things that would make me cancel my season tickets would be an arena in Jersey City or Hoboken...

The guy who posted that lurks this forum and was the Captain of my beer league hockey team lol. I'm not exactly sure who he knows in the organization but he definitely isn't the type to post some bullshit fake rumor. Take it for what it's worth I guess....

Driving and parking to those 2 cities would be an absolute nightmare. Not many things would get me to cancel my season tickets but dealing with that headache would probably be it for me. No idea where there's actually room for either to put an arena anyway which is why I think it's not going to happen.

We had talked about this before in 1 of the threads not that long ago but there's actually enough room in Newark to just build a whole new arena basically across the street which would be a way better decision than to move out of Newark.

Newark is just the perfect city for people who want to drive and those who want to take the train. A large part of our fan base is still never taking the train so moving to a place with worse parking options like JC or Hoboken would be extremely foolish.

Being in Middlesex county, I would have loved to see them in New Brunswick. Train Station, Turnpike, Rt 1, Rt 18 and a college town to boot.
