Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part VI

Unless we go to a free streaming service like Dallas or Anaheim did I like MSG and think they treat us pretty well, we have pre and post game shows. The coverage is good to me.
The cost for people who have to use a VPN, Gotham Sports, or a streaming service sucks though. If I didn't have a friend who lets me use their log in for Gotham I'd be f***ed because Xfinity is my provider and they still don't have a deal. They could do better off MSG but I do agree the content is usually very good.

Now not saying hes officially back but this is why you play markstrom those past few games the team is only going to go as far as the goaltending takes them and being comfortable in a playoff spot even 5+ games ago it let them put him out there shaky

if Markstrom is back, that definitely changes the calculus against Carolina. You figure a district advantage in net maybe gives NJ some sort of chance against those low key cheating overachievers.

I don't have a problem with MSG just the access. I guess I am upset with Comcast/Xfinity. Everything in my house got turned upside down when Comcast and MSG split. I never would've cut the cord, I liked it. But they forced me.

I hate all these streaming services. I feel like I have to research everything I want to watch ahead of time so I can figure out what service carries it ...it seems so archaic. Like the old phone operators that had to plug you into the person that you wanted to talk to

It was always obvious to me that cord cutting was not going to be the panacea a lot of folks were hoping for. Now, I sort of figured by now you'd be able to buy just about any stand alone service you wanted but it was obviously going to be more expensive. The original discussion about this topic was when ESPN starting raising its rates to cable companies who apparently got some pushback from the folks who didn't watch sports complaining they had to subsidize the most expensive part of the cable package.

Colliton may have not been a good head coach in Chicago but here he has been phenomenal

I won't entertain the doomers who think about things like Nico or Jack wanting out, but Colliton could absolutely be in line for another head coaching job next season. Laviolette and Tortorella could be done, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and the Rangers are at least four places that will need coaches, Pittsburgh and Vancouver are other places who might be looking, Buffalo could also clean house. Not a ton of openings but still enough that he could get interviews and be hired.

Pretty pumped to have Cotter another year. For some reason I thought he might only have been under contract this year. Still think he has solid, consistent 3rd liner potential in the right situation. He needs to be paired with a very defensively responsible C and ideally another 2-way forward with some edge. Didn't have that chance this year, might not next year either though. Could be a 25g, 15a type guy.

His shot and finishing is legit great for an NHL player. Physical player. Awareness, especially defensively, not good. Passing...also not good.

100% agreed. He’s a solid bottom-6 guy, RFA after next year too so he should be pretty easy to retain if he performs well.

Love his physicality also. I think he now has the Devils record for most hits in a season? I like that. He’s also effective on the forecheck.

There was a couple month stretch where he consistently looked pissed on the bench and in interviews. Seemed beaten down....and tbf to him, he isn't/wasn't really getting a fair shake with how staff is using him. And tbf to Keefe and Co, the team as currently constructed didn't and doesn't give them many options.

Hope that changes next season, but the amount of $$$ they have tied up at RD now + clauses is gonna make it difficult to acquire the right mix of forwards most likely. I know everyone is excited about Glass. Heck, I liked the acquisition despite it being another Fitz overpay. But he's had injury concerns for a while now and despite the great initial results (small sample), his shot/chance generation is pretty bad for 3 years now. If he comes back soon and continues producing, great. But if that doesn't happen, they can't go into next season with him at 3C and no one else added at that spot.

Colliton was wayyyyy too young to be given the Chicago job the way he was, that was asking for disaster.

I do think it's worth noting the success we've had in identifying quality assistants who go on to have success in other franchises. Green is likely taking Ottawa to the playoffs in his first year there. Brunette got a HC job, and although he will inevitably be the fall guy when the season ends that roster is horribly constructed. Nasreddine is doing a great job on DeBoer's staff in Dallas. Grier went on to become GM of the Sharks and is building a really solid foundation there. McGill seems to be pretty well respected Taylor decided to stay on even when his mentor Ruff was fired. Really the only big miss was Recchi.

I was going to say that Kowalsky is a great AHL coach but then I saw that Bridgeport is 15-43-4 this year, Jesus Christ.

That's why if they ever leave I hope it's a free streaming service. Like Anaheim and Dallas it's for free to watch for anyone living in the area.

If we are just going to SNY it's not that much different and they have issues with being dropped from things like fubo and YouTube TV and the games will be bumped to whatever overflow channel they have(if they have one? I don't watch so no idea) when the Mets conflict too. Same thing with YES.

I have no desire for the Devils to leave MSG. It sounds nice but it's better to deal with the Devil you know rather than hope for a better outcome. When I'm in the car I basically need to stream the audio or open up Fubo for the video feed and sticking the phone in the glove compartment so I don't peek. I used to be able to simply turn the dial.

Fubo IMO is perfectly fine. Even when I was in South Carolina and PA for a year for my company I still watched the games. If the game is on something other than MSG and Fubo doesn't have it, I'll just stream it through thetvapp or Mad Titan Sports onto my TV because I'm 100% against playing into their marketing and sales partnerships where they force you to buy something to watch one game.

He is an RFA so he technically has 2 remaining years of control.

i pay $10/month for this jailbroken fire stick doohickey from my girlfriend's brother, it includes every channel known to man including the devils (and any other sports team, in just about any league)...it's unbelievable. f*** cable. so glad i don't have to deal with that anymore.

Can you watch games back on demand?
