Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part VI

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I think a manufacturer should come up with pads that are similar to motorcycle racing that inflate as someone is going crashing into the boards on a horizontal plane.
They could probably make stronger pads with more protection but they'd weigh more and the players would maybe reject them on that basis.

It would almost be like Brian Gionta having the team goalscoring record in a way...very good player but not the first choice you'd have or even maybe top five to be the first 100-point scorer in franchise history

I don’t think that’s really fair to Bratt. Gionta had one outlier season…and even for that season, he was not really considered as an elite player. It was pretty obvious the stars aligned for him that year.

Bratt is a legit elite offensive player and he’s recognized around the league as such.

You guys just say stuff and my mind goes off… SIX_A620B2E3-FE84-4F4C-8F75-2F4002E129B1.jpeg

Lets hope the Canes have peaked and offer nothing in the playoffs... LOL

that's gonna be the series/moment where we miss Jack for sure.

As I said a few weeks ago, Bratt is the first Devils player with 70+ points in 4 consecutive seasons since Kirk Muller.

Jesper Bratt will never outlive being a 6th round pick for some people on here. Once taken late in the draft, always overlooked.

Anyone catch them talking about Hamilton being a possibility in playoffs last night? I thought Fitz said he was done.

I don’t think he was ever confirmed 100% done for the year. Same with Siegs. Jack is the only one definitely done for the year IIRC

I think Hamilton is still a possibility although unlikely. Pretty sure Siegs is done till next year though.
They put up a graphic during last nights game that said

Jack Hughes, Dougie Hamilton, Jonas Siegenthaler "out for the season"

Does that mean just regular season?

I don't think we'll see either of them unless we get out of the first round.

I think I'm the only one left that believes that this team can upset the Canes.

Taylor Halls 17/18 season is still the single greatest season by a Devils forward I have ever seen. Better than Elias, Parise, Kovy and Hughes.

The dude had minimal support and was doing it all by himself. I have never seen such determination before. I watch this video every once in a while and it still amazes me. He is willing these goals in all by himself.

One of my favorite Hall memories. No dipsy-doodle bullshit.

I can see it only if one of our goalies stands on their head, Carolina’s goalies become sieves or there’s some combination of the two. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility but, based on our play lately, I don’t see it happening. I personally think we’re going to get blitzed. I am in no way rooting for that though. I’m gonna be pissed if we lose I’m just trying to be realistic.

If we somehow get Dougie and Siegs back I would feel much much better.

I honestly think if we were to upset the Canes without Jack (it wouldn't be considered an upset with him) and some of these other guys missing, I think Rod could be in danger.

This has nothing to do with anything other than talking about the 17-18 team, but I looked it up earlier.

The Devils have one more point after 73 games than the 17-18 Devils did after 73 games. But the 17-18 Devils didn't lose another regulation game from that point until game 82 and went 7-0-1 until they clinched a spot.

Game 73 of that season was on March 20th.

Elsewhere, the Panthers had just played game 71 of that season on March 20th, so just like this year, we had teams behind us with games in hand. Only the Panthers were just one point behind on that same date, with two fewer games played. The end of that season got way too uncomfortable if you remember. The Panthers went 7-3-1 in those remaining 11 games to our remaining 9. They still finished one point below us. What really ended it for them was they had a 3 game losing streak in late March where they went 0-2-1.

They ended the season on a 5 game winning streak, but game 3 of that 5 game winning streak came on the same night we clinched a playoff berth with a win over Toronto.

He’s actually thrown a few “big” ones this year. One directly resulted in a goal for during the fun and enjoyable stretch of the year
I believe I was in attendance and that the game was against Chicago. The Devils had an insane amount of zone time in what may have been their best shift of the year. Bratt shot out like a cannon to hit and take a considerably larger Blackhawk player into the boards. He won the battle and made a great pass to Jack, who buried it for the goal.

It has nothing to do with being a sixth round pick and everything to do with this franchise having Jack, Elias, Parise, Kirk Muller, MVP Hall and even Kovalsuck, none of them did it as a Devil.

As far as this not being an outlier like Gionta, not to that degree but let’s be fair this is Bratt’s eighth year in the league and his career high in points was 83 last year. Before that it was 73. He may have a bunch of 90-point seasons on the horizon and if he does I’ll look at it differently but as of now it’s still a bit of an oddity if he essentially beats Jack and everyone else in Devils history to it.
