Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Jack really is still a puppy. Even though he's going into his 7th NHL season he's only turning 24 in May.

Bratt, Nico and Meier.... I think they're a little different...well I think they should be the more seasoned vets of the team is what I mean.

I'm not sure how long we can keep doing this without any results but I'm glad I don't have to make the decisions.
He is, you're right. I hope beyond hope that this is the last time we have to deal with Jack's dry spaghetti shoulders.

You're also right about Nico, Bratt and Meier. The same excuse doesn't hold water.

Hopefully Meier can continue to elevate. He has these moments where he's firing shots and is a wrecking ball. He has it in him, I believe in him. I want it and I do think he can bring it.

I've had a couple large Spanish lagers. It's amazing what it does for confidence.

f*** it. This team can beat Carolina. I believe it.

Frankly, I’m not worried about Jack even with the injury concerns because it’s highly unlikely he ever gets to a point where he’s not worth his current contract, especially with the cap going up.

If he was making 12+ million, I could see where people would be nervous.

"We need to trade Jack Hughes ASAP and start over" is not a valid "concern", sorry man.
I highly recommend you apply to a public relations position with the current US federal government. You’d fit right in.

stop mischaracterizing and misrepresenting my position. There are valid concerns about Jack and the larger influence he and his family have on our roster construction. Not to mention valid concerns about his play. And there are absolutely valid concerns about this core and whether they can get us to where we want to go.

I am not 'mischaracterizing' anything. You legitimately have said multiple times we need to dump Jack and Luke.

you said not 3 hours ago that we should trade them for freaking Nick Suzuki and Slaf for christ sakes

that is not a "valid concern"

Schmid didn’t have to play out of his mind. Devils pretty much controlled everything after game 3 and limited high danger chances against Schmid

Why are we talking about this crap? We have a game tomorrow. I think Devils can win if we put in a similar effort as they did against Canucks.
Because people who are never seen when things go well saw the "Devils are losing" signal go up.

I don't think money is even a factor. It's just incredibly disruptive to the team to constantly be dealing with the loss of key players. Whether it be Dougie, Nico a few years back seem to catch the injury bug or Jack....you start to having to play musical chairs and backfill.

In some sense that's always going to be the case... Injuries are always going to happen but it's just incredibly frustrating that we've barely got to see Jack in a full season once. Beyond even just winning, I want to see gaudy numbers stacked up.

When Jack Hughes is healthy he's a top 10 forward in the NHL, and I believe he can make it to the top 5. He is not the problem. The problem is we don't have enough offensive talent around him, specifically goal scorers.
Id like to believe that but Id like to see it first

Jesus, I take one work trip to Buffalo and this is what f***ing happens in here?

LOL. Federal Government is hiring. I heard they have some open positions. Highly encourage you to join them, they could really use your strawman expertise.

Such a gem you are. Denigrate and dismiss any opposing viewpoint. Because we must all agree or be ostracized?
I think the problem is, is that there’s a ton of incredibly insightful discourse on this board supported by facts, analytics, and emotion, but when you start saying wild shit like “we need to rid the organization of the Hughes’” people are going to justifiably drag you for it because it’s absurd. Just because we think you’re nuts doesn’t mean we’re against being critical of the team. Quite frankly, intentionally provocative statements you consistently make need to be called out for what they are or else every discussion would devolve into shit-flinging low-IQ nonsense.

TL;DR: you said wild stuff and got appropriately called out for it, so just own it.
