Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

lmao Bratt is 6th in the league in assists and tied with Cale Makar for 9th in the league in scoring. He has more points than Sidney Crosby.

Hischier is tied for 8th among centers in goals - more goals than MacKinnon, Matthews, McDavid, and Crosby.

Since January 1st:

Bratt - 34 points (31 games)
Jack - 24 points (22 games)
Hischier - 22 points (25 games)
-----
Meier - 17 points (31 games)
Mercer - 9 points (31 games)
Palat - 9 points (28 games)
Noesen - 9 points (29 games)
Cotter - 7 points (30 games)
Tatar - 6 points (29 games)
Glass - 6 points (7 games!)
Haula - 5 points (18 games)
Bastian - 4 points (31 games)
Lazar - 3 points (28 games)
Dowling - 2 points (18 games)

So again - why are we blaming the players that are doing their jobs?

the production is great no one is denying that their individual stats were great last year too. i just question why this team is mentally soft and can't handle adversity and just go through the motions just like last year. what changed after that playoff run? these guys were animals that season hungry even down in the third period.

man some of you guys are p***yes with the kovy stuff lol. it's really not that serious.
90% of the time this would be my exact mentality... maybe 95% of the time.

My main problem is the timing of the season and the situation we are in.

From my pov, our defense right now is under tremendous stress...the injuries, the standing, the losses...

It just doesn't seem like a good time to be calling out a key defender. It didn't seem to have any point. It seemed more lashing out and frustration than constructive...and when the captain of the ship is showing frustration in rough waters it doesn't instill confidence in anyone. In fact, to me, that is the essence of weak leadership.

so basically a leader throws a temper tantrum when they lose otherwise they aren't a leader? Got it, good to know.

like I said, this is all nonsensical BS.
yeah they throw a temper tantrum thats it lol

thats fine for you but its the same story as last year except the goaltending at the start of the year is putting them in a better position to finish it out.

We got to stop this “the players don’t care enough” stuff when they lose. I don’t think caring or effort is the problem here. I think the problem is outside of Nico and Bratt they just aren’t good enough talent and skill wise. And those two players aren’t at the McDavid / Draisaitl level.

if keefe had stepped up to the mic and said kovy sucked and needed to be better, i would understand your point. but that's not what happened- kovy just happened to be the name embedded in the question, so keefe said what he said.

if he had been asked about loveable cartoon goof andy capp, i have no doubt that he would've said something like 'andy capp is a lazy piece of shit who should spend more time f***ing his wife instead of napping on the couch.' keefe was just pissed off in general.

after watching ruff's limp dick tenure, i'm fine with what keefe said. i want a torts in the streets and a keefe in the sheets.

This is why you need to be around these boards more.

I'm clutching my pearls.

This roster needs a massive shake up.
Sometimes your team needs to play beyond what the collective individual talent is.

Cup teams have done it, past devils teams have done it. Many teams right now, are doing it.

They have failed miserably at this fundamental aspect of playing good hockey.

Whoever you want to blame for that, fine. But we simply are not able to rise above and overcome adversity, in a game or in the season.

You all know who I blame but it doesn’t matter, something fundamental has to change and I’m not particularly excited at another coach. Even GM, I’m not sure who we could get that would be better.

AMEN! a lot has changed on the roster a lot has changed behind the bench a lot has changed in the front office. not a lot has changed at the top of the lineup. thats all im going to say about that!

I don't believe a goddamn word that comes out of Nichols mouth, he's a clickbait artist. That being said, I agree with the idea that Ruff was a limp dick pansy who let the players walk all over him.

If the players are upset that Keefe is holding them accountable, that's not a Keefe problem. Some of these guys have had it too good for too long.

Bench Mercer. Bench Palat. Waive Bastian. Bench Dillon. I don't care about draft pedigree or how many Cups you've won, f***ing show up and do your job. Send a message to these guys that if you want to mail it in with these weak efforts then you're not going to play.

if this is even remotely close to being true then just ship the kiddy clowns out now and be done with them.

#softcore used to mean something else to me lol
That article did a great job of having lot of words while saying nothing.

The only thing of note was the last paragraph where it wasn’t even extrapolated on.

Pretty useless article IMO.

I think Nichols is basically reporting what Friedman was saying on 32 Thoughts. Don’t think he’s making it up.

Not a fan of articles like this. It barely has anything in it despite the length.

I don't think there is a single player on the team that doesn't care. And Nico and Bratt absolutely lead by example every night. And I have no idea what the locker room sounds like. This is all true. So it's absolutely just my opinion that there seems to be something missing there. Not necessarily a player, but, something. Some people call it killer instinct. Maybe accountability. Maybe confidence. I don't know. But I don't think Nico, right now, is the guy to flip it just simply by leading by example. There's something more needed imo.

Step 1: Identify "New jersey hockey now" URL
Step 2: Laugh at any braindead idiot to click on the link and read the article.
Step 3: Move on with day completely unbothered.
I mean, I get the sentiment, don’t usually share those articles, but thought I’d share since the quotes and info in there are from Friedman, who I think is a pretty reputable source. Not sure if that makes me a braindead idiot, but oh well!

Apologies if it was inappropriate to post.

Because Nico and Bratt don't yell at or hit guys and yelling/hitting = caring!
Im not in the “they don’t care” camp but they approach the game with such a stoic attitude that its not exactly inspiring to the guys down the lineup. Especially Bratt.
