Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

He's a better player
No he's not...I mean maybe he is now but Miles Wood is going on 30 years old and Glass is 25...when Wood was his age he was 3x times the player

Miles Wood through 25 years old played 323 games had 65 goals and 56 assists and 131 points with 347 PIMs

Cody Glass turns 26 on April 1st. He's played 243 games and has 35 goals and 56 assists for 91points and and 66 PIMs...Glass has spent parts of 4 seasons in the AHL and played 66 games for the Milwaukee Admirals just 3 years ago.

Miles Wood spent 15 games in the AHL.

As much as I bitch about Palat and Tatar hasn’t been much of a difference maker this year, I hope both play. We’re better off with them than not. I guess Sprong can slot in for one.

However, Lazar can be replaced by the cow that burger he ate off the ice was made out of and I’m not sure you would notice much of a difference. I’m pretty sure Dowling is not worse than he’s been since returning from injury.

Penalty minutes aren't good, for the record. Miles wood, despite drawing a bunch of penalties, is a net negative on penalties over his career. Glass is a net positive.

Additionally Miles wood, in line with his reputation as a defensive black hole, has a massively negative EV goal differential when he's on the ice over his career. Glass is close to even.

And that's not just goalie related, because Miles has a hilarious bad xG% (neighborhood of 43%) while again, Glass is very close to even (49.6%).

Miles wood sucks, has always sucked, and I'm glad he's gone.

Before my rant, did Keefe address the missing forwards? I’m sure he did. I see the video is up on YouTube but it’s a long and not sure where to jump to.

I almost always listen to them on my walks, so I’ll be listening in a little.

Why though? Great opportunity to get Markstrom back on his game with his former team in town and we DO need him to find his game again.
I would let Allen play until he’s bad.

I think Markstrom will find his game eventually, but I’d like to get on another role.

Allen is this year’s Kinkaid. Not saying he should start the playoffs like Kinkaid did, but I’d like to see more of a leash for him. I’d not be so annoyed with this if we won last game 5-4.

Not playing Markstrom against his former team while he needs to find his game again will definitely do more harm than good. Can’t do that to your starter. Him also sitting a week doesn’t help him get his game back

Hopefully this means Dowling is in for Lazar. Lazar had an all timer on Monday
I would be happy to never see Lazar play another game here again. He really has become that 4th line guy that should be shredded. But I honestly see more people shitting on Bastian, who isn’t nearly as bad.

Fair enough

But if he stinks again and Allen is good against Ottawa, they need to go back to Allen for the game against another one of Markstrom’s former teams on Monday.

Bastian is good defensively. Would be nice to see him produce more. But yeah, Lazar isn’t doing much these days

.40 ppg vs .37 ppg is “3x the player”?

Lets give Glass an actual season with NJ before we make these proclamations

Does every fanbase have the same obsession with former players who objectively sucked ass? Miles wood, jesper boqvist, ryan graves, the list goes f***ing on
I won’t stop repping Jboq, we could use his speed and IQ for our 4C :)

The obsession is indeed weird but I wouldn’t consider these players as sucking ass. They are all serviceable (maybe Graves does suck ass tho). The Graves Woods Sharangovichs Seversons of the world aren’t here anymore because their salary is not worth their play. Boqvist is the only misstep as he could have been retained on the cheap.

Serviceable? Serviceable? You obviously weren’t damning one Ben Lovejoy with such faint praise?

Wood actually did suck, though. And Severson was actually pretty good. But yeah it's always in relation to salary.

Boqvist simply was very mediocre for us. Maybe he'd be an improvement now, but the reason we didn't keep him is because we were trying to do better than him, which is good and fine and the correct thing to do. Sometimes it doesn't work out.

Graves was fine with us. Did a decent job at clearing away rebounds. Would randomly make an amazing offensive play like 3x in the season.

Absolutely thrilled we let him walk. dude has 3 points this year

I disagree. Wood was a fan favorite, but I wouldn't say he was a better player.
