Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

Dirty Jersey may never win, until they drop those state taxes. Before we roast the organization, let’s look at the teams who are currently benefiting the most.

Temo has been the biggest problem on offense. He cost the Devils a bunch of quality assets. Plus, the Devils paid him +9M to score. So far he has been injured and bad at offense. Plus his cap hit and contract, limit the Devils ability to bring in other players.

Calling for Keefes head is an odd complaint.
Yeah what does anyone want from Keefe this season...more consistent performances? Okay but that's been under every coach with this group, at some point the golden boys have to take the hit for that. As presently constituted this team's a one and done anyway, so long as they get to THAT you can't really complain about the coach this year.

Are you kidding? The looked dead today no jump. He is renowned for punishing practices. Perhaps a mere walk through yesterday might have been suffice. Guys like noessen look cooked

So now the criticism is he's Tom Thibodeau. When last year people were getting on Mr. Magoo for being too lax with everyone this side of Holtz. Maybe at some point people will start holding the golden boy players accountable.

The bottom-6 needs a MAJOR facelift this offseason. If Haula is a healthy scratch today then I suspect he's not long for them team, either we'll dump him to someone for future considerations or buy him out at the end of the year.

Palat should be bought out. Tatar and Bastian are both UFA and should walk.

I'm fine giving Glass a 2-3 year extension to be our 3C for the immediate future. Gritsyuk will take one winger spot. Sign three other guys in UFA and make a trade if necessary. Glass + Gritsyuk on the 3rd line is a good start. Cotter should be on the 4th line. Have Dowling compete with a couple other dudes in camp and go see what happens.

I'm pretty agnostic on Mercer, keep him as a 3rd line winger or trade him for whatever you can get, I don't really care tbh.

I know today sucked, but I’m encouraged by the team’s overall performance over the last week. They know that they’re playing playoff hockey already, they know that they can’t take days off. I don’t expect another performance like this one. I think they’ll be much improved in Columbus. And they’ll need to be, because Columbus’ chances are fading with the week they just had.

Anyone jumping on Keefe today is simply just dumb or doesn't understand hockey, his goalie couldn't make a glove save on Kevin Hayes from the top of the circles + 2 goals were in direct responsibility of guys not making a proper outlet and in Bastian's case on the Karlsson 5-3 goal, he didn't clear the zone properly on the PK.

Monday is basically going to be make or break, chances are the Rags lose tomorrow to the Oilers. If they win on Monday then they'll be pretty much cruising towards the playoffs. If they lose, it'll be a white knuckle finish to the end.

We were in yesterday's game until that penalty by Pesce killed our chances to tie it up, we still had momentum up to that point and then it went to shit. The final score makes our effort look worse than it was.

I would agree with this, my only concern though is that Marks looks bad. Like real bad. And our next option is a career backup who is also pushing 40.

I like how the team has come together the last few games, but it doesn’t change the questionable roster construction. Fitz better hope this geriatric goalie duo he spent assets on holds up for one more year.

And that was with, in my opinion, one of our worse efforts as of late with poor puck management. I think Keefe will hammer that point home with them for tomorrow, he already did touch on it in the postgame.

Serious folly if you think douglas is going to complete a season uninterrupted. Obviously you feel you know better. Carry on
Interestingly Dougie was an ironman when we acquired him. Missed some games in the first covid season but otherwise he literally never missed games over a 6 year span. Unfortunately we've gotten the complete opposite. Which is odd because he is not especially old, nor does he play a physically taxing style of hockey.
