I don't think anyone can argue that we have a problem scoring goals and that we're often all Swedish no finish.

Bratt and Meier aren't the problem per se - it's that we don't have two 35-40 goal scorers. Relying on the bottom 6 for goals is not a recipe for success in high scoring games.

Just to sum up where I'm at in this discussion - I'm kind of agreeing with what you're saying, but not really. The Devils have 2 35 goal scorers, it's Nico and Jack. The team could use more scoring, but Bratt isn't a problem and Meier's clearly missing a few goals. Another high-scoring winger would be great, but even though the Devils aren't going to have a 25 goal winger probably, they should end up with 6 wings who score 15 or more. The biggest scoring issues are, in order, 3rd line center, 2nd line LW, 1st line LW, entire 4th line, entire defense corps.

And, let's face it, as decent as Markstrom and Allen have been I've seen zero goals and zero assists from either of them, so our goaltenders aren't scoring either. Brodeur would've had at least 10 goals already.

Goal scoring is relative. NJ is trying to win with defense and goaltending. The team is seventh in goal differential . That’s not bad. Sure they have been unlucky at times and disappointing at times but it’s a new system for them and the forward group is a work in progress. It took Fitz some time to renovate the defense and he finally fixed the goalies. The forwards are next. Grits should help and hopefully Glass is the player that he seems to be. Pushing Palat and Haula down the lineup would be a good thing.

Grits Jack Bratt
Cotter Glass Noesen
Meier Hischier Mercer
Palat Haula xxxxx

Ir if you prefer Mercer at center

Grits Jack Bratt
Cotter Glass Noesen
Meier Mercer Palat
Haula Hischier xxxxcx

Minor League Hockey Team GM Traded His Own Son for Future Considerations

For Utica Comets GM Dan MacKinnon, it seems the answer to that question would be: not a whole lot.

On Thursday, the Comets, the AHL affiliate of the NHL's New Jersey Devils, announced they'd traded defenseman Will MacKinnon to the Cleveland Monsters in exchange for future considerations. Will is the son of the general manager, who of course was the one who signed off on the deal. As such, Dan effectively traded his own flesh and blood for a return that will be determined later.

I think he also said something about the kid being some sort of a ballerina.

Bottom line on Kovy, one of the most fun and exciting players I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch live. An absolute freak of nature athlete.

I’ll remember him fondly, even if his time here was short and filled with plenty of controversy. Plenty of it his own doing, plenty of it brought upon by ownership and the league. How he carried the team in 2011 when Lemaire took over and the entire 11-12 season+playoff run sit atop my core memories of a 2010s decade that didn’t offer a whole lot of other positives.

It really is a shame that two players(Kovy and Parise) who should be looked at as all time greats for this team both left on such poor terms.

Doesn't help we have been the gutter for the vast majority of the time since the 2012 playoffs ended too.

You watch a guy go hard his whole career. Never the best guy out there, but you can tell he's giving it his all and he bring something important to the group you know. Reminds them that you don't have to be the best or the smartest to make an impact. Going out there and being you as hard as you an is enough.

But then he starts to age and slow down a bit. You don't notice him as much because the skills he had are starting to slip. It's gradual at first and could be handwaved away easily, but as time goes on it becomes more and more clear. No matter how hard he tries it's not enough. It gets harder and harder to get everybody going, you know, to find that spark day in and day out and everybody can see it. There are fewer good nights mixed in with the bad, and then fewer still. Then one day, you se him reach back for his fastball and it's just not there anymore. He's got nothing left. And then all I'm left with is the sobering realization that a veritable institution and, I'm not ashamed to say, a memorable part of my experience as a fan is just completely washed.

As, of course, we all will be someday.

Thanks for the memories, Jim.
