Mercer is a 3rd line PKer getting paid a1/3 of what those others players are while scoring twice as many goals since the end of December... who's he going to get assist from Haula?

4 million is not 1/3 of 7.875m, check your math again.

Also that’s Bratt’s UFA deal not his RFA deal.

We got 73 points from Bratt when he made 5.45m.

I’m generally a Mercer apologist but he’s is having a disappointing season and is currently overpaid at 4m.

What would have you satisfied in terms of production for Bratt? 100 points? Top 5 in the league?

I’m trying to wrap my brain around complaining about a play driving, play making winger over a stretch where’s he’s producing a PPG.

All While only making 7.875m.

He’s bad because he won’t transmogrify into Brady Tkachuk?

A team is a cake. If the flour isn’t sweet that isn’t necessarily its job. If Bratt created 100 goals in assists what’s better that or if scores 40 goals and zero assists? I’d like all Devils to score more. It’s been an issue for the whole team. It’s hard for me to crap on Bratt for his play.
Then this team is a marshmallow cake

Check his breakdown it's 3 million actual this year. 4.75 next year and 4 .25 the last year. 4 AAV

Meier is $5,350,000 and a signing bonus of $5,750,000. This year

Bratt's base is 9 million this year ..

Dawson is making a 1/3 of both of those players

C’mon now, salary is meaningless to everyone but the player, cap hit is what matters.

He’s also a perfect example of how you want a player of his size to develop. He’s gotten stronger and better on the boards every year. Hits more every year. Complaining to complain. Though we all know this is just a performance.

Meier also hit 40 goals in there, something tkachuk has never done.

Meier GPG over the last 4 years is 0.418
Tkachuk is 0.424

Now, that of course involves an extra SEVEN HOURS of time tkachuk spent on the ice with the opposing team down a man, but hey.
So goals per game, but total PP minutes........without accounting for Timo's missed games? Intentional or an oversight on your part?

This is actually impressive for this team since they have the puck more than not

Over the last 4 years

You're comparing one player 26 through 28 vs another player 22 through 25... You are literally hitting Brady's ELC in that comparison.

There is a real critique of Bratt and Timo needing to score more goals. Especially during the last couple month stretch where the team was struggling to score goals.

That said both guys have played very well this year and they have an opportunity to finish strong.

And both did so last night, and have every chance to rewrite the narrative on both their seasons (especially Timo) going forward.

Yeah there's still 18 games to turn this around...

But that avoids the the fact that we're are in a tight race with almost no margin for error because of both of their lack of goal scoring.

Even a paltry contribution over the last 2 & 1/2 months and we would be duking it out with Washington and Carolina and not Ottawa, Columbus and potentially NYR

Who is that ...that's disturbing.

If you’re going to give them all the blame for the team’s struggles now then at least be consistent and give them credit for the team’s first half

What someone actually makes is meaningless? I learn new shit here every day....so far far goals and actually salary are meaningless.

This feels disingenuous.

You aren’t unfamiliar with the importance of the salary cap.

So yes, I officially don’t give a shit what our players were actually paid this year vs their cap hit.

When do we ever discuss actual salary over cap hit?

Does anyone care if Hamilton is getting paid more or less than his 9m hit this season? No we do not. The 9m salary cap hit all we care about.

The only situation where actual salary comes up is when a big contract player is potentially being dumped onto a budget conscious bottom feeder.

That and RFA’s qualifying offers. (For example, backloading Mercer’s contract will increase his QO in 2027.)

If you want to complain about Bratt, I think the very valid criticism is that he doesn’t shoot enough. Combine that with how he is shooting 4+ goals under expected and you have a meager goal total.

Doesn’t negate that he’s on pace for 90 for under $8M, I don’t really care how he gets there because he’s been nothing but a good creator, provide solid defensive impacts most seasons, add a legit threat on the PK, and ride shotgun to the best player on the team, it’s not always THAT easy to do.

He’s also only missed 6 games in the last four years.

If we make believe that Cotter, Noesen, Jack and Nico weren't the lion share of the goal scoring back then....then maybe I guess they deserve some credit for the early season if we mind erase like Men in Black

No, New Jersey collapsed.

And again at Even Strength Meier and Brady both have scored 14 goals.

Columbus was 10th in the conference on December 27th... they're on our heals today.

Hopefully we pull this out but the last two+ months has been a free fall. 24 ROW on December 27th -- 34 today :dunno:

That's a direct reflection on the best players in my opinion...and don't use the injury nonsense this was happening long before any injuries.

Columbus was 10th in the conference on 12/27 and are now...8th in the conference (2 points up on 3 teams tied for 9th). Wow, what an improvement!

Point is the team can’t go as the stars go when the team is playing poorly but then it’s not true when the team is playing well. Sure the role players did well early but so did at least three of the big four. And saying Bratt has not played well all year with 70 points is…a huge reach

I'm dis indigenous

Who was the last 90 point player that was struggling to make the playoffs for New Jersey in March? Kirk Muller in 88?

Mercer since December 27th 8 goals

Meier and Bratt 9...

Mercer has been ripped apart mercilessly this season.

the Devils are 8 points up on the playoff bubble. They are not "struggling to make the playoffs"

Dawson Mercers has been ripped apart mercilessly because he has f***ing sucked ass.

happy to help!
