Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.

I don't see the point of people lauding Wayne Gretzky's 1,963 career assists. I mean, they weren't even goals! Dude was totally overrated.
Dude had the goals to go with it...see the difference... it's like the lunch meat fitting on the little bread

Nah it's the complete package. He's a dick too. Personally I think that's an element that is severely lacking on this team...

He's 6'4 225 going on his 4th consecutive 30 goal season...he's a a career .8 PPG player and he can play the game any way you want to play it....that combo is a special player and we haven't had anything remotely close to that since Jamie Langenbrunner...and he wasn't even that.
lol we all know he’s a dick, that’s for sure. He’s a great player (though not much of a skater, unless I’m way off base). I just think a lot of people are making him out to be the reincarnation of Lindros, and he’s not.

Oh and Gretzky would've never won shit without guys like Messier and Anderson balancing out the p***yfication....

And he never did

What does “ruggedness” have to do with scoring?

Complete players which you all seem to have trouble with...some players bring a lot more to the table than points. Stevens changed the way the opposition played and he didn't have to have a single point to drastically alter the outcome of a game... alligator arms players disappear in those games

Yes, Gretzky was clearly the weak link for the Kings here.

I don’t know what “alligator arms” even means but ok.

Also, if Jesper bulks up even more then his and skating will suffer. You don’t see players who have the best hands and skates in the game with overly upper body frames. Its literally how that works

Jesper has hit the perfect ratio for his frame. It can’t be disputed

Jack and Dawson are the ones who need more bulk

Look up alligator arms ...how the hell have you been a sports fan and haven't heard that term? It's like "hearing footsteps ". Same thing...

Very soft LA team that's how a much less talented Edmonton team ran through them with Messier, Graves, Tikkenan....ect

That LA team lost to Montreal, specifically Roy, in the 1993 SCF.

The Kings beat the Oilers in playoffs in Gretsky’s first season in LA (1989).

He got hurt in 1990 and his back issues were a problem after that.

I’d take him on this team in a heartbeat, but I think a lot of people let their obsession with his fisticuffs blind their judgement.

I didn't say he wasn't a very good player. But the hype train is getting absurd. I'd take his brother in a heartbeat over him. He's a fine player and plays a style we need, but he's not some generational talent.

Probably mentioned by some already, but the core passed the leadership test last night. They keep this up and we make the playoffs. They don’t, we miss.

Fire Fitz.

I know🙂. Matthew is far superior; in a vacuum I’d trade Bratt for him despite them not remotely providing the same benefit.

So we're going with Jesper Bratt's 4 goals in his last 32 games and Timo Meier 5 goals in his last 29 games is not a problem?

Got it. I'll leave it at that.
