There is no way Vancouver is gonna retain anything on EP’s contract.

If it somehow happened you’re bribing someone to take Hamilton/Palat in the off-season. I just got a feeling we won’t be able to Trouba Hamilton like the Rangers did, though I would gladly be wrong.

Someone tell EP he gets to play JT Miller a bunch of times a year.

I'd take the Pettersson risk, even if he doesn't rebound to what he was before he would still fill a role that the Devils would need to spend for (trade/fa) since they don't have center prospects and so you can take the high cap hit risk with the rising cap and Jack signed at 8m.
Don't disagree with the line of thinking. But I think I'd rather take a risk with Cozens. If he ends up a 40 point guy long term at $7.1 you can stomach it. But man, if Pettersson is even just a 50 point guy at $11.6 through 2032....you are f'd. He's also softer and looked like absolute shit in the 4 Nations, including in a game vs his nemesis  . So it isn't just a Nucks' thing right now.

Gonna be funny when nothing else material happens and this deadline really just was a stupid, pointless overpay for Dumo.

Again, they are 99% getting rid of Haula and Palat this offseason. They are only still here because of their clauses and league cap stagnation. With the cap jumping materially for next season, they will be able to find a team to take Palat. Obviously they will have to add. I'd say Palat is even more likely gone than Haula because at least he could maybe play 4C.

Well we know for a fact theyre getting a center; unless Fitzgerald just isnt a man of his word, which wont go unnoticed

Issue is it likely ends up a conditional 1st for Nelson

Im not saying i really want this but

Mercer for Cozens + buf retain 1.5 mil of his salary.
I would make that trade. Change of scenery could benefit both and with 1.5m retention, works for me.
If we can get ROR for relatively cheap im all in. But a 1st next year is too much
I’m impressed with how remarkably consistent ROR has been through the course of his career. The likes of Haula and Palat have scared me away from older players but at 4.5m, he has a very reasonable cap hit. I don’t want to give up a 2026 1st round pick for a rental (see Brock Nelson) so if the acquisition cost is reasonable enough, I like it. We get two more years of him, as well…let’s just hope he doesn’t fall off a cliff if Fitzgerald can make it happen.

To add to this, if you don’t get Vancouver to retain at least $2.5 million you are setting up a higher floor to clear for the next Nico and Jack negotiations.
Jack is a while away and I think he clears Petterson's $11.6M by then by a mile with the rising cap but yeah perhaps important with Nico.

So you think there will be retention on a 6 year deal but buying low on Crouse as suggested earlier is some outlandish take

What even lol
Did you see the Seth Jones trade...5 years of retention.

And yes buying low on Crouse is absurd to me - he has 4th line production for $4.3M and term.

Yeah I agree the cost for ROR would probably be far too rich. He’d be the perfect guy to have next year behind Jack and Nico. Would really take some defensive pressure off of Nico, too.

Friedman was just on NHL Network and indicated that Nashville is basically treating ROR as if he has a no movement clause. It’d have to be a worthwhile trade for them to consider even asking him if he would go. So it sounds like it’d be far too rich.
Nashville overvalues everyone until summer then they deal them for half of their value. I expect the same is true here unless Fitz is dumb enough to overpay.

I don’t know what I prefer . Rental Nelson or RoR with term . I am guessing Nelson would be open to resigning as he is in the NY/ NJ area already but … maybe not .
I wonder how much it would cost to resign him ? RoR has a decent cap hit and would be ideal at 3c , but we need more than his production and a 3c right now and I think Nelson is more if a 2C and provides more production that we badly need . Is there any way we end up with both ? Besides those two , I can’t think of anyone that would be a better fit ( that’s rumoured to be available )

Not a fan of the Dumoulin trade but the only way I think it can be somewhat justified is if the Devils are trading Nemec as part of a deal for a high end forward.

I also would be extremely down with making a play for Pettersson, He's an elite two way center that's still only 26. With the cap set to rise significantly over the next 3 years the Devils could fit him in long term.

Don't get Vancouver's end game, you trade Miller to satisfy Petterson and then trade Petterson? Would be funny as f*** if we land Petterson because Quinn is long gone when UFA time comes up
A bit like Schneider-Luongo situation. They ended up with no goalies. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up with no top 6 centers.
