Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

Don’t disagree, but either he fell off a cliff physically or this is just something he fighting - his skating and shooting metrics are way down.

But if this is health related? He is a hyper efficient shooter who plays really good defense. I disagree that a healthy EP40 isn’t worth his deal in the cap reality. I just thing the Devils would keep their powder dry for a different member of that squad.

In a vacuum, looking at his edge stats, the question is why is he getting off slightly less shots and scoring on way less shots? His speed and burst numbers seem fairly similar but that doesn’t talk about agility.

If you think the shooting recovers then you probably think he’s a guy whose game will bounce back.

You said the same things about Nico and Jack. I’m not criticizing you for that because I understood and appreciated an alternative skeptical opinion at the time, and I understand it about Nemec now. But given how things turned out with those first two players, perhaps we should take a step back from the negative prognostications a third consecutive time.
Bullshit.... I said they both suck at various points and they did....what we are talking about here is vastly different....we are talking about not being able to make an NHL lineup D+3 vs those players sucking in full NHL roles ...those two things aren't remotely similar.

Top speed isn’t off too much but the rest are.

ROR is two birds with 1 stone, you get a 2C/3C for the next little while and you probably get Haula off the roster in some sort of cap dump in the summer or you can legit hold onto Haula for one last year in his contract year and hope the injury took everything out of him and he's a very good 4C next year. Hughes/Nico/ROR/Haula barring Haula isn't garbage is pretty f***ing good imo

I feel like Dylan Cozens makes a lot more sense now than he did earlier IMO.

I wonder what it would cost to bring in him and Zegras? We need more talent at forward and it seems both need a change of scenery - possible buy low.

2026 1st + the last remaining 2nd and probably a prospect

Very rich deal for a 34yo who wont be here in a few years. At that price point youd go for a McCann no? Fill in the 3C with a rental at that point

Two years of control beyond this year is not nothing. The only reason you wouldn't pay for that is if you think those two years would he a hindrance and he is cooked as a player.

Not shot they do Petterson as much as I'd love it

The Petterson thing is weird. Not sure how I'd feel about that kind of trade. If he can't figure out his game, that deal is just brutal. 11.6 for 7 more years? Woof.

But obviously we have seen him put up 100 points before. It would be weird for the bottom to have fallen out on him at age 25, but I'm sure he wouldn't be the first.
