He is playing fine and he was injured. And yeah - most of this teams used their young defensemen because they have to and they have oipportunity. Devils were contender with loaded defensive line. He returned after injury and he was a regular as 19 yo player. And yes, he isnt Makar or Heiskanen. It doesnt make him bad player without top-4 real potential.

I think no NHL team drafts a player #2 Overall with the expectation of waiting 4 or more years for a regular.

It's my view the talent hasn't progressed. At all.

His knee is bothering him at the moment, couple that with mentally being drained from Vancouver drama, he’s the prime needs a change in location player. Him healthy in this team would be insane.

I also remember how a lot of devils fans were hoping to get him in the 17 draft, then we moved up to first.

Don’t disagree, but either he fell off a cliff physically or this is just something he fighting - his skating and shooting metrics are way down.

But if this is health related? He is a hyper efficient shooter who plays really good defense. I disagree that a healthy EP40 isn’t worth his deal in the cap reality. I just thing the Devils would keep their powder dry for a different member of that squad.
