Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

you are really going to argue that guys don't play hurt at times and that it might impact 20 year old more? Did you go to Facebook Med with Blackwood? It's more likely in your view his talent just evaporated at his age? No question he was bad and was bad in Utica until later in December. Some of it to me seemed systemic some seemed to be on him and some I could easily see as secondary to playing hurt. To be fair maybe he is just that bad. We will see.
I get youre being nice but it gives too much to those hating on him so say 'maybe hes bad, well see'

Half the fanbase is 100% out on Nemec, and thats fine; theyll be stuck complaining about him for a long while I guess

Friedman has said twice this year we are keeping Nemec; Devils must really hate what hes becoming...

Beaten to it. Love that out of Jack.

One thing is for sure, the kid's determined. He will do what it takes to get back and dominate on the ice.
Craziest part is when it comes out Jack and Eichel planned this back during 4 Nations to allow the Devils space to add major talent before the offseason bidding wards begin

Eichel probably said something along the lines of 'you gotta try this shit out' as they passed around th.. the idea

Haula and Palat are only still here because of contract clauses. They are 99% gone before next season. No need to worry @Bleedred

Palat will be here next season and then get bought out.

I will be pleasantly shocked if anything else happens.

And we can’t even afford to lose Haula because we’re going to get jack shit at center on the UFA market.

I think no NHL team drafts a player #2 Overall with the expectation of waiting 4 or more years for a regular.

It's my view the talent hasn't progressed. At all.

The smart thing would be getting a C/W tweener who could play center when injuries but play wing if needed. McCann comes to mind as that type of player but you need a haul to pull him out of Seattle. And I agree, I think Haula is here next year whether we like it or not

I agree with you but that still doesn't mean he didn't show up and play hurt making a bad situation worse.

That's on Nemec too, the Devils allowed him to play those games. They could've pulled him out of those Olympic games and said this year was too big for him to get hurt right before. That's exactly what happens and then he gets mad at the organization because Kovacevic outplayed him in preseason+early regular season to where he's riding the bus in Utica

Nemec is not and never was mad at the organization

And now were suggesting young players shouldnt play for their country because... injury possibilities?

Anything to make Nemec look bad I guess

You said the same things about Nico and Jack. I’m not criticizing you for that because I understood and appreciated an alternative skeptical opinion at the time, and I understand it about Nemec now. But given how things turned out with those first two players, perhaps we should take a step back from the negative prognostications a third consecutive time.

And defensemen usually take longer to figure it out too. I don't think his rookie season was a flash in the pan. He showed a lot of poise for a 20 year old. I think this season was a bad combination of him getting injured, missing time, and getting shuffled down the depth chart because of the performance of others (mainly Kovacevic).

Giving up on him now would be a mistake. Obviously if the right trade comes up he's not untouchable, but it better not be for a rental or some shortsighted move we end up regretting in 2 years. You think people pine for Sharangovich, Zetterlund, Boqvist, etc. now, if Nemec goes somewhere else and puts it all together...

Nemec has been an injury call up twice. Meaning when healthy there are better options.

He played his way out of the lineup each time.
He is playing fine and he was injured. And yeah - most of this teams used their young defensemen because they have to and they have oipportunity. Devils were contender with loaded defensive line. He returned after injury and he was a regular as 19 yo player. And yes, he isnt Makar or Heiskanen. It doesnt make him bad player without top-4 real potential.
