Who knows how the day ends but it’s definitely bizarre that the Devils helped 2 teams facilitate a trade by retaining salary for them and now are paying another team more to take salary off the Devils books.

Feels pretty lame currently despite the dollar amounts being way different.

Tom pushes out a prospect and a second for a rental dman to get retention lol.

And then forward group is still dog shit and the same and now we don’t have a second to use to fix the biggest issue, the forwards.

I honestly didn’t even blame Fitz really up until this point. Yeah, he totally misread our forward group. But it was still salvageable this summer.

This move is just so bad in the base logic, let alone value, that I would not be sorry to see the back of him. Awful stuff.

thats a 2nd and the Devils 3rd rounder from last year. he was traded for a 2026 4th in the offseason, good market for sellers not looking forward to what else Fitz has got up his sleeve based on this
jesus knowing he just returned a 4th 8 months ago makes me hate this even more

Agree on the forward front. Where we actually needed the most long term help, he just biffed away one of our better pick assets for someone that won’t be here beyond the next few months and isn’t even good on top of that. Mind boggling.

I mean Dumoulin is fine, just not worth a second and a prospect. We should’ve went after him instead of Dillon if we’re being honest. Would’ve been cheaper.

Fitz can't resist when he sees a big men.

I guess you have to go for it and refocus the offense around Meier's game. Double down on strong defensive play. If Mercer's being traded in the next 24 hours you must get someone with term or an RFA. Similarly for Nemec. Hopefully Fitz doesn't do anything too short sighted.

I want to see playoff hockey, and hopefully the price to improve the team isn't outrageous.

losing an edge or balance flying towards the goal is one of the most dangerous things in all sports. sliding or falling head first into the boards has killed people. doesnt matter how big you are
Yes. I’ve said many times I remember Kovalchuk ending his Devils career like this and he was built like a tank.

Are we sure that's why Anaheim retained? I guess we are because they dealt for Husso a week ago, there's no way they have cap floor concerns at this juncture.

But yeah, unless they use the space they've gained from this (and lord knows how they'll use the space), it's troubling.
