Is Kadri an option?


Will have to add a veteran defenseman, regarding your 5th choice.

I like Kadri, but at 4 more years (after this one) at $7M probably not. I didn't realize he was that old and had that much term left.

the asking price for him should be cheap then as you mention with the term left on his deal. which if it ever became a problem could easily be traded away when needed for pennies

I love the Kadri fit on this team but I just can’t find a way to justify adding his contract at his age, even with some decent retention.

I would’ve been more interested if Hughes wasn’t out for the season. Odds are he has only two good years left, maybe three if you’re lucky. We’d be wasting one of those years these playoffs without Hughes.

He's not a big tough guy that will drag you into the ice so there is pretty much 0 chance of us claiming him lol.

I get that was the MO this off-season, but idk how Fitzgerald doesn’t look at this roster today and not think it can use some speed and scoring ability.

Vrana brings both for absolutely nothing. Yes, he’s shooting like 25% but at the same point, there’s not a guy in this team that would dream of shooting at those numbers. There’s definitely a skill factor behind it and it’s worth taking the risk.

I wouldn’t hate it. We have to find more ways to score with Jack gone. You can’t have 3 out of 4 lines be slow low event garbage.

Because this entire franchise hinges on Jack. His health and success are the prime reasons this iteration will either fail or succeed. And he’s simply not good enough. Either due to health, the mental aspect, or just his actual play. They have all come up short for the expectations of an elite franchise 1C. And you can scream and defend all you want but the proof is in the results. We are a mid hockey team. By the numbers and by the eye test. And the core is mid by the numbers and the eye test.

If the Canes are dicking around with Rantanen and really consider trading him away, we may be able to pounce on them in R1 with the right adds. Then you have PDO bender Washington in R2.

Amen - He would be a perfect addition of high skill that cost us no assets - a huge upgrade - and I think the $ are like 750K and prorated for the remainder of the season. Why not?

Yeah, some people are being dramatic about what this all means, sure. And people love to cherry pick those comments. But it's absolutely justified to be worried about the health history of our two best players and the GMs inability to put together a team that doesnt have a glaring weakness that severely hinders the team.

I generally agree.

Devils need to become an annoying team to play against because their defense is smothering the rest of the year. Then get into the playoffs and hope the breaks go your way because anything can happen in a 7 game series.

I may be willing to look at a different barely NHL player for a few weeks just to have a new face to be annoyed with; as long as it costs basically nothing.

I didn’t realize just how good and consistent Kadri has been over course of his career. It’s a shame he has 4 more years on that contract. His final season would be age 38 and that’s scary AF. Haula and Palat have really scared me away from older players. Kadri woukd be a great fit. It’s unfortunate.

Agreed for the most part, this is my issue with the people ‘complaining about the complainers’, there are legitimate reasons to be worried/annoyed with the state of things and it just comes off as looking for fights when you literally tilt at windmills attacking every negative thing said and acting like it’s the dumbest thing ever posted just about every other post which is basically spam at this point if not outright trolling.

Conversely the actual over the top stuff like laughingstock of the league and literally only coming to the board ever to complain or take bows over something you said about the team negatively is just begging to get yourself eviscerated or dinged for trolling.
