Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part V

I don’t think it’s fair to say Jack is broken forever, but it’s also not to fair to say there definitely won’t be any long term recurrences.

This is the third time in the six years he’s been in the league that ended the season on the IR.

Although last year he probably would have played till the end if we either made the playoffs or were still alive by the final game.
He is absolutely injury prone and has not done good enough at bulking up. He is 23, not 18 anymore. He needs to get stronger if he ever wants to be reliable. You don't see the top stars constantly falling over like he does. And of course he gets injured often.

Curious to see where Friday takes us. I do not nor will i ever agree with selling when you are in a playoff spot and in the thick of it. That's f***ing loser mentality
What would we sell anyways? 4th liners that are amongst the least productive in the league? Probably wouldn't be able to get anything in return even if we wanted to.

Why do you guys keep saying this? Do you think Jack is just going to be able to add twenty pounds of muscle just like that?

He has a small frame. He isn't going to get much bigger. He is excellent at avoiding hits. He was semi cheap shotted this time which is why he hit the boards.

Rakell is one of the targets I want, maybe they could use Gritsyuk as a piece in that deal since Rakell has term left. But based on what Friedman just said who knows if they'll use assets on a winger since they seem to be targeting centers but I really don't want the Devils to use assets on Nelson or Laughton since they're both pending UFAs and they probably have a significant market. Don't want to use prime assets on guys who won't be here next season. But I'd be really surprised if the Devils don't get a center so hopefully Pius Suter is one of them since I think with the Swiss crew he'd re-sign here.

Maybe now the Devils can get Elias Pettersson since the cap is there for it :sarcasm:

I said it after the 4 nations. We are never going to win a cup with Jack Hughes. He's just too weak and fragile!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's just a fact!

There is no chance I am trading Grtisyuk. We waited all this time - I want to see what he can do at this point. And he will be on an ELC - we are going to need that with Luke's extension and the mess of contracts that we have like Palat, Dillon and Haula for next season.

I think I saw from Friedman or some other credible source that Hamilton is “going to be out for awhile.” Whatever that even means. Say what you want about Dougie but he’s actually been one of our best d-men since Xmas. He’s been turning it up offensively lately, too. It’s being glossed over because of Jack but this is a significant loss. You’re taking away another veteran d-man and left with three youngsters in Luke, Nemec and possibly Hatakka. I feel like that’s going back to last season where our d core was too inexperienced.

All of this and it doesn’t even factor in all of our other warts. It’s impossible to fix the warts of most of your roster group in two days. It’s just a flat out mess.

so does this mean you will stop following the team with him on it? Might as well, what is the point, right?

he was tripped up and he slammed head first into the boards. Dude isnt missing weeks upon weeks with a bum groin or something.

I'm not interested in paying a premium for the backside of Rakell's contract. He'll be 32 in May, we saw how quickly Palat and Haula have declined in their early 30s, especially sending back one of our only forward prospects with real potential that can contribute on an ELC for 1/5 of the cost.

Short of trading for Rantanen with an extension in place, there is no way I’d include Gritsyuk in any deal. Our position of strength is defense. So…we are talking about Nemec or Casey as a trade chip.

I'm not trading Nemec after a down year either - as far as I'm concern, our chances at winning this year is zero.

Only way I'm trading him is for a comparable young player like McTavish.

Yea it sucks. And Siegenthaler being out makes it worse. I think Fitzgerald brings in a defensemen
