Meh, Jack playing with a banged up shoulder isn't good news. He played through it last year and looked like a shell of himself. Teams will also target that shoulder in the playoffs to make him less effective or fully knock him out for good. Just get the proper care now and be ready for 25-26. This team isn't going to do anything with or without him this year

The problem is that we SHOULD be as much WIN NOW as Tampa. We SHOULD be. The guy running the team went on a PR tour the last two offseasons saying it's now about competing and not just making the playoffs.

But after what's transpired in the last 9 weeks or so and then the Jack (and Dougie) thing this week, we really can't consider this a win now year.
Tampa Bay is in win now mode because Hedman is 34 and Kucherov is 31 with no contract in two years

The Devils wont be in win now mode until at least the turn of the decade. By then Jack would only be 28 years old

No we SHOULD not.

1. Every GM says their team is here to compete. It's PR speak, it sells tickets to casual fans, who cares. None of them are like "yeah idk maybe we'll make the playoffs, some these guys suck, dunno what to tell you."

2. Tampa absolutely dominated the league for years, including winning multiple cups, before they started these crazy spending sprees. We have not.

3. Tampa's core was far more mature than ours when they started on this trajectory. Jack is 23. Luke is in the throes of puberty. Compare that to the ages of Tampa's stars when they started making waves.

There’s not many names out there that are good enough to make any sort of push in the playoffs IMO . Nelson , Boeser , McCann and …….. maybe if Cozens , Tuch is available . But all those are going to cost a metric asston and the first two are just rentals . Hopefully there is someone worth while getting that hasn’t been rumoured . I have zero faith in Fitz anymore .

It’s been said that we will be buyers regardless . Unless we are getting someone like Rantanen or McCann , I say be sellers .

Man just read the allegations ..

It can't be real that we have yet another major dickhead on the team after all that happened last year......?

There isn't a lot of choices outside of M and Bastian...

It’s an impossible situation to be in. We all know there is no hope without Jack unless something MAJOR happens. It will be significant overpayment. Regardless of how we feel about the team’s realistic chances, punting the season is not a great message to send to that room (only care about the core players) when you’re sitting 9 games over .500 and in a playoff spot. It pains me to say this but the “right” move may be, for the most part, staying pat. Maybe you add a few pieces with term to if there’s reasonable cost somehow (doubt there will be) or make a hockey trade involving Mercer. Fitzgerald got us in this mess by overestimating the offensive capability of this forward group. I’m so close to just being done with him.

The trademarked devils move of standing still and doing nothing. The decade old proverb from a fanbase that has overvalued picks and prospects since 2012.
