Meh, Jack playing with a banged up shoulder isn't good news. He played through it last year and looked like a shell of himself. Teams will also target that shoulder in the playoffs to make him less effective or fully knock him out for good. Just get the proper care now and be ready for 25-26. This team isn't going to do anything with or without him this year

This sport sucks. Literally nothing to be excited about this team anymore. Every season everyone is injured or a bust. The future looked so bright few years ago, our window was just opening, now it feels like it has already closed. So bummed once again :(

This guy's reporting means absolutely nothing to me, but it's all we got right now.

Hate to say this, but Bastian and Mcleod were both one of the few 16 year olds on that team for the 14-15 season.

In this video at the link below they said "some went to play in the NHL"

Looking at the roster that really narrows it down because "some" is more than 1 and that list only includes...

McLeod
Bastian
Sean Day - 2 NHL games played
Spencer Martin - goalie, has played with Carolina this season and last and Vancouver and Colorado before. Played 29 games for Vancouver in the 22-23 season

Day is 2 years older, the rest are all the same age and would have been 16 at the time.

All season long people here made it sound like it was automatic that the depth issue would be fixed with TDL deals for middle six forwards. What assets do we even have that are enough payment for guys who will actually be reliable and make a difference? If you say Mercer, even though he’s been disappointing, that’s still taking away from the need you’re trying to address. If you say Nemec or Casey, well I think you’re underestimated this team’s need for mobile defenders and a Dougie replacement over the next couple of years. After that what else do we have to offer?

It feels like the roster construction is in a much worse place than what the consensus has been here.

Man that really speaks to how awful junior hockey culture can be. It's really eerie that McLeod, who may have been one of those 16 year olds, ended up being the alleged ringleader of the hockey Canada group assault a few years later. Really leads me to believe that stuff like this is going on regularly with older players introducing younger, more impressionable players to it and it becomes cyclical.

Also not sure how that works with them being 16 at the time? Hopefully someone has more details on how that would be handled legally.

Holy moly. Tampa got back two first round picks for Bjorkstrand and Gourde. Really like those players but it’s quite the acquisition cost. It is certainly a seller’s market. Just imagine what Seattle will ask for McCann. I hope Fitzgerald doesn’t do something stupid.

Can’t assume it was Bastian. And if it was its his name and reputation that he destroyed. I certainly won’t miss him.

Can't assume but there was apparently only 4 16 year olds on that team and two of them were Bastian and McLeod. Hopefully it wasn't Bastian but there's not a lot of options.

Jack better not play through this injury. He won't be able to take faceoffs like last time so we will still be weak at C. Even if we make the playoffs, good luck to that shoulder in a series against the Canes. I get we are wasting primes here, but holy hell I want minimize the chances we are talking about Jack's shoulder yet again this time next year.

With the price TB paid for Gourde and Bjorkstrand, I’m. Not sure I want to make a trade unless it’s for McCann ( still has term left and is a bargain ) .
Nelson would help but I don’t think I want to pay what the probable asking price is

Mercer, Nemec and multiple 2nd round picks is plenty of ammo for making improvements to the forward core.

And the Devils shouldn’t be hoarding multiple defensive prospects when they have a clearly bigger need at forward, they can trade someone like Nemec when they have Luke, Casey and Silayev long term with Dougie, Pesce and Siegs all signed for 3+ seasons.

The team has said they dont plan on moving Nemec. Casey is the more likely option

You raise an interesting point. If he can’t take face offs, who could play with him to fill in? There’s no way Keefe would put Haula up there with his abysmal play. It would force us to strap Mercer to Jack. Of course a trade could change all of this and I personally don’t think he’s going to play through this.

Is there risk of further damage if he does play? If so, there’s no way I’d let him play. It is an organization’s responsibility to protect a player from themselves.

Giving up two 1sts and a 2nd is not a business we should be in at this point. I'd love those players but that'd be catastrophic for us. TBL is much more "win now" than us.
The problem is that we SHOULD be as much WIN NOW as Tampa. We SHOULD be. The guy running the team went on a PR tour the last two offseasons saying it's now about competing and not just making the playoffs.

But after what's transpired in the last 9 weeks or so and then the Jack (and Dougie) thing this week, we really can't consider this a win now year.
