Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part IV

What is dramatic about pointing out obvious nepotism?

I love how we continue to gift benefit of the doubt to a management/org that hasn’t earned a single scintilla of it in the post-Lou era.
Nepotism only matters when it has an impact on something else. If I open a lemonade stand and have my nephew mix for me, that is nepotism, but it doesn't matter cuz it impacts nothing and no one.

Explain who or what was hurt by this, without using the word optics, and you might have a case.

Apparently Jack is done for the season, they are just waiting on final confirmation.

More trades will come and ones that will help for this season not cap facilitating ones.

Goes without saying there is still confidence they will make the playoffs (🤷🏼‍♂️)

If Fitz was any good at nepotism we'd have a couple of Tkachuks.

Matt's probably a Devil if Gaudreau told the Flames he'd leave them in UFA sooner instead of waiting for 7/1, they would've jumped at the 2nd overall in 2022 I'm guessing for Matt even though they went for roster guys when he was eventually traded to Florida

So Jack's probably out for the rest of the season, we can go bigger at the deadline without his hit on the books depending on assets.

He can come back and join us for the Conference Finals.

If all you’re mentioning is character with no skill they possess, they suck.

The hockey equivalent of your mom setting you up with her hair dresser's daughter. "She's such a sweetheart. Really, so kind. And smart! Oh boy is she smart. And did I mention she was nice? Really, really nice."

This is what worries me about the whole Fitz is just facilitating a shopping spree posts…what the **** are we shopping for if Jack is out, a likely one and done team or just trying to prevent washing out of the playoffs? This isn’t anywhere near an actual contender as things stand even if you replace Jack with a nice third liner.

I mean generally you should get something of value back for retaining 50% of a contract, no? Even under the circumstances...couldn't get a 6th ffs? Don't really see the incentive in doing these teams a favor, but whatever.

Lol at some people acting like they are playing 4D chess with the Jack injury. Them making this trade pretty much guarantees he's done for the regular season at a minimum (as expected).

There’s much less straightforward ways he could be compromising the interests of the hockey team to do shit like this.

Nepotism is perfectly fine I guess. “Trust me bro”.

At least when Lou was doing shady shit, he did so while building an actual successful organization/team.

Lou had his idiotic son running the AHL team when he was here and now he's running the Islanders AHL team. If there was an NHL dictionary you would be able to look up the word nepotism in it and see a picture of that guys stupid face.

They retained 25%. It's about $575k. And he was a former 6th round pick if that floats your boat.

I mean we did get a 6th round pick.. but one that is closer to playing in the NHL than any future 6th round pick. So we essentially got a better version of what you are upset we didn't get.

The impact is not always clear, it’s a conflict of interest, hence why it’s something that should be avoided to the greatest extent possible.

Your lemonade stand might suffer to the competition if your nephew sucks at mixing lemonade. lol come on now

So there really hasn't been any bad effects from this and might not be, but it's still bad.

I don’t disagree. I said before, at least Lou actually built one of the most successful franchises of the time period when he did that. What has our current leadership done?

The guy was listed as one of their top 10 prospects most places, one of their top 5 here: Top prospects for Edmonton Oilers | NHL.com

Seems like a better return than a 6th round pick?

LaChance has a real shot at a fourth line role with attributes that are obviously coveted and we increased our LTIR overage for a retention slot we weren't using anyway. That's the gist of it, right?

I highly doubt that kid cracks the NHL. At the worst, it helps Utica.

They got a high floor, low upside prospect who is close to pro-ready. Last year they got a 4th round pick in a draft 2 years away for taking 25% of Tanev.
