If Jack was not done for the regular season, why would we not just keep the cap space and use it for a push?

Somebody smarter with the cap pointed out that you can maximize LTIR by getting closer to the cap if Jack is out for the regular season. If my assumption is correct and Frederic only eats up ~280K in cap space, I don't think that's the difference between us getting somebody or not.

Is it accurate that this frees up cap space? I don’t get it.

Also nepotism is not strictly an “optics” thing or about our “feelings”. There’s a reason it’s considered corrupt and a conflict of interest. We have no way of knowing that Fitz is not foregoing better deals or compromising the interests of the actual ice hockey team when he makes deals for children of his staff.

Well it’s one of two things really, if he isn’t done for the regular season then using cap space was a white flag deal. If he is then I’m still worried what dumbass contract Fitz uses the LTIR space on

Yes, I'm sure he's turning down offers for better players just to pick up AHL players who are related to staff members.

There’s much less straightforward ways he could be compromising the interests of the hockey team to do shit like this.

Nepotism is perfectly fine I guess. “Trust me bro”.

At least when Lou was doing shady shit, he did so while building an actual successful organization/team.

It's a nothing burger trade that doesn't say anything one way or the other but please continue to make up worst case scenarios based on nothing but your own feelings. Jesus f***ing Christ this fanbase is filled with drama queens.

Contrarily, given that this player is I believe eligible to be a UFA on August 15th if he so chooses, it should guarantee an upper hand with a player who might otherwise have no reason to sign here.

I don't like the nepotism either but unfortunately hockey is a very small sport.

Borderline praying for Mercer to find his game at C.

Everything after the holiday break has been such a bummer. And I don't know that I fault Fitz for not biting on any deal, the GMs from these deadbeat teams are desperate to save face.

They claim they don’t even know the extent of Jack’s injury although I’m sure it’ll magically be announced on Saturday after the deadline.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I wonder if they are purposely withholding information as a tactic in trade negotiations.

Look, I called him a nepo baby as a joke, but the kid was at least drafted and has a better chance of playing for even our AHL team than the prospect whose rights we sent the other way.

People will get bent out of shape over the silliest things. It isn't that serious.
You only say that cuz you haven't considered the optics.

I wouldn’t exactly fault them considering it’s less than a week and one game away, they can publicly stonewall that long. If we were talking about a month or more before the deadline then it gets into the silly realm.

What is dramatic about pointing out obvious nepotism?

I love how we continue to gift benefit of the doubt to a management/org that hasn’t earned a single scintilla of it in the post-Lou era.

Realistically, even in a best case situation like a separated shoulder, the recovery timeline is around six weeks. If we are lucky, he’d back for the playoffs if we can make it. That should be looked at as the best of bad scenarios at this point.
