Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part IV

I agree with you about needing to make moves and set up for next season but trade deadline is usually a time that you post inflated prices for players . It’s usually teams willing to use assets that they normally wouldn’t , in order to make a run at the cup. I’m still wanting to add this deadline as I don’t want to waste a year and miss the playoffs completely . Which I think we are in danger of doing if we don’t do anything. I also see the other side of things though where there is no point wasting assets if we don’t have a legit chance of doing anything in the playoffs if we make it . It’s hard to know what to do . It all depends on how long Jack will be out for . If he is out for the entire season plus playoffs , I wouldn’t use any substantial assets in trade. Especially on a rental . I’d go as far as to say rentals are totally out of the equation as things stand . No one is available that would move the needle enough to make it worth investing in ( rentals ) and I don’t think we are a Boeser or Nelson away from being true contenders . Part of me wants them to try to get one or more of RoR , McCann ,Bjorkstrand , Tuch , but another part doesn’t want to waste assets either unless the visit is decent and it gets rid of players we currently have in the bottom 6 and /or bolsters our C depth . We desperately need a 3c . Dowling Mercer Haula Lazar are NOT going to cut it anymore .

McLeod could be had for a second, I'd think.

This isn't an airport, you don't have to announce your departure.

I don't care about people arguing, that's part of getting a large group of people together because not everyone is going to get along and it's sure as shit certainly better than this I think I'm better than you holier than thou bs.

So many better things to do with your life than the rest of us lols sure thing pal

The important thing to remember is that I am better than you and holier than thou. Now carry on.

Huh, two people whose job it is to gin up interest in themselves and their podcasts said there were multiple locations in the discussion. Well okay, that's glib, but where do they get their information? Oh, from inside sources who are leaking that information for an advantage. Interesting stuff - it'd be much more boring if they said Miller only wanted to go to one place, and it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for any side to say that in public - things have to get desperate for that to happen.

We haven't even gotten into the fact that Miller wouldn't play on PP1 here, that the Devils have nowhere near enough cap room for him, and all of the other impediments to a deal - the Rangers did make a spot for him on PP1.

Maybe there's a reality where the Devils make a JT Miller deal, but it always was far easier for the Rangers to do it.

It's not an anecdote, it's something that happened. I can't find the article now, but Zidlicky said he would waive his NTC for one team and then he was here.
Again, for the record, if you're asking me to trust your made up story about him only wanting to go to the Rangers instead of two trusted insiders, I feel like there's not much else to say here.

The Devils PP has been 'throw up in your hands and rub it in your eyes' gross since 2025. Maybe finding a spot for him on the PP wouldn't have been a bad idea!

Also I believe you about Zidlicky, but that doesn't mean it isn't an anecdote. Zidlicky saying "Devils only" 13 years ago has literally nothing to do with JT Miller, lol.

This indicates to me Jack is at least done for the regular season then and will go on LTIR. Really hope he can return for start of playoffs. If not we are done.

I think you're reading too much into it. It could be spun that Fitz just bought a draft pick to use as an asset soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing which non-prospect we sent to Boston a la Cole Brady in the Chris Tanev trade last year.

The Devils just traded salary cap space for a 21 year old still playing college hockey.

Anyone who isn't on the fire fitzgerald train now better hop the f*** on.

Sobering thought for me is that, since the last Cup was 22 years ago now, no fan under 30 or so even remembers it. The culture of winning I knew in my teens and 20s is probably something younger fans can't even relate to. Bummer.
In 2003, I was 12 years old and just became a hockey fan after being gifted NHL 02 for the PC a year prior. Solely became a Devils fan from accidentally selecting them when flipping through the team selection menu too quickly, skipping over my hometown team Montreal, and selecting the Devils who were just right by Nashville. I would typically play with the Habs but I would try Nashville and New Jersey out of curiosity. Both the Habs and Predators lineups stunk at the time so I would have a hard time winning with them, but every time I picked NJ, I took a liking to finally playing a team with a goalie that could stop the puck.

From there on out, I liked the Devils ever since and decided to actually start watching the real games. Was really fortunate to be able to experience watching a fully experiencing a cup win so early. It's sad we only really got close again in 2012 and fell short to a superior team. After that, it has just been a miserable experience.

Regardless, I'll always cherish fully enjoying a cup win with the Devils, while most of my friends who are Habs fans were either babies or toddlers like myself in 1993 and never got to experience a cup win.
