I miss 2022-2023 so bad. The vibes were absolutely immaculate. It feels so far away and that style of play seems a bit out of reach now with how the roster is constructed. Is it fixable, sure. The top end is there. The defense is there (less offensively minded though) and the goaltending is solid. But we’ll have to wait and see.

How many devils games has this guy reffed this year? It already felt like the devils have been routinely getting hosed intentionally by the refs this year. Idk, I feel this narrative is too on the nose. I don't think GMs care about what happened on Sunday. Fitz likely has the foundation of a deal agreed to by now, so if I were the other team, I don't think I'd use Jack's recent injury as leverage. As the trade partner, I'd be hesitant to adjust my price based on perceived needs of the other team. They do not know or care about Jack's health. Just my thought.

With each passing year, I become more grateful to have seen the window of time from '88 to '03. At the time, I don't think I appreciated how rare that was -- playoffs were a given, and a deep run a possibility every year. But geez, that feels like a million years ago now.
I’m on pins and needles…definitely on edge. If Jack is done for the season, we have no chance to make serious noise even if we do get to the playoffs. Of course some would contest (and rightfully so) that the team as currently constituted wouldn’t go far anyway. However, we don’t know what reinforcements Fitzgerald will bring in over the next four days. No Jack or Nico equals no chance. Would really stink to watch the next 20 games knowing we have no realistic shot.
4 and we are 3-1 and I still wouldn't have this guy ever ref another game for Keefe whether with us or another team...

Wow... I read recently there was some connection to danton, Keefe and, frost, but didn't know much about it and also had no idea about wes McCauley either.
That feels so conflict of interest, good on Keefe for testifying against.

Obviously can’t happen for every game but maybe get someone else scheduled for the game 7’s.
I believe the ref assignments in the playoffs are merit based though, so maybe it’s too obvious to make an adjustment like that.

When the Rangers were balking at the initial price and it seemed like the Canucks were going to play hardball with him, you don't think he would have accepted a trade here?
NJ was alluded to as a potential destination for JT a million times and never was it reported that he wouldn't waive to come here. How far do you think Fitz would have negotiated if he indicated NJ was on his NTC?
(Love watching the narrative shift on this. 'We don't want him! He's going to suck in NYR!' -> 'LOL the Rangers are 0-2 with him, he sucks. Who cares he's producing.' -> 'Okay whatever, he looks good so far but like, his contract is gonna suck eventually probably' -> 'He wouldn't come here anyway. Useless debate!')

Nobody even talked about his NTC because it was never a realistic possibility. Miller played for the Rangers before, his best friend plays for the Rangers, he was always linked to the Rangers, and it was a matter of time before the deal happened. It's like when Zidlicky said he would go to New Jersey and only New Jersey - two weeks later, that's where he was.
NJ was mentioned all the time because it makes sense for the Devils to at least talk to drive the price up.

Obviously he played for the rangers before and obviously he has the Trochek connection, but the rest of this post is conjecture at best but you’re presenting it like it was a fact.
Friedman on 32T podcast said several that there were multiple teams interested and that the Miller’s camp provided the canucks a list of teams (the plural form of team) he would accept a trade to. Marek on The Sheet reported the Devils as one of the likely destinations for JT.
Gonna trust those two guys more than an anecdote about a defenseman being traded 14 years ago.

It is a million years ago, as far as I'm concerned. I spent the ages of 9 to 16 experiencing seven championships for the Yankees and Devils combined. Now the latter only makes the playoffs if nothing goes wrong. And I'm supposed to be grateful because my team won Cups. I'd argue in some ways that makes this more painful. At least the Canucks and Sabres never expect to even be regularly competitive. We do.

Could Mercer be part of a deal ?
If the Devils needed to part with someone on the current roster in a significant deal, forward Dawson Mercer would likely be their most intriguing piece. Mercer, 23, is versatile enough to play wing or center and has a manageable $4 million cap hit for two more seasons after this year.

glad some have finally caught up to the Mercer stuff. I can't remember a player looking so promising early on in his career and then now looking like the literal definition of a JAG. Dude does nothing out there.

Sobering thought for me is that, since the last Cup was 22 years ago now, no fan under 30 or so even remembers it. The culture of winning I knew in my teens and 20s is probably something younger fans can't even relate to. Bummer.
Huh, two people whose job it is to gin up interest in themselves and their podcasts said there were multiple locations in the discussion. Well okay, that's glib, but where do they get their information? Oh, from inside sources who are leaking that information for an advantage. Interesting stuff - it'd be much more boring if they said Miller only wanted to go to one place, and it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for any side to say that in public - things have to get desperate for that to happen.
We haven't even gotten into the fact that Miller wouldn't play on PP1 here, that the Devils have nowhere near enough cap room for him, and all of the other impediments to a deal - the Rangers did make a spot for him on PP1.
Maybe there's a reality where the Devils make a JT Miller deal, but it always was far easier for the Rangers to do it.
It's not an anecdote, it's something that happened. I can't find the article now, but Zidlicky said he would waive his NTC for one team and then he was here.
