Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part IV

I dont know whats more embarrassing:

- the person who wasted their time making a chart for a sample size no respectable scout would ever consider

- the people who put anything into it and try to use it as a means to a discussion
For the record I like Nemec and I think he’ll be a player for us. When I see something relating to a Devils player I usually share it, that’s all.

Id rather be seen as a lesser fan base than ever get numbers equalling bigger teams like the Rangers, if it means more people who act like most here have the last ~15 hours, let alone the last two months

Youre either not a real fan if youre this reactionary or youre just looking for attention and dont actually believe the nonsense youre spewing; similar to a child throwing a temper tantrum

Nobody cares to hear the constant bitching.
Grow up or stop watching

would be nice if he's not out for the year but missing any amount of time between now and the playoffs is not good for this team. saying "its not as serious as some feared" casts a wide net, it could still be really bad for him/us.

fitz's job is probably on the line so i expect a big reaction before the trade deadline, but I don't know if that's really a good long term move, hopefully we can get pieces that will help in the future and don't have to give up too much. if we can sneak into the playoffs and jack can be back in time that would be great, but it would also require a lot of players stepping up in his absence, I hope they have it in them but last year wasn't a promising preview of that

I always believed Jack and Bratt didn't make sense together. They are both most effective entering the zone with speed and it never made sense to me to have two guys on the same line that do that.

This is just true.
Seems ridiculously obvious to me. But yea it’s the depth pieces. Do the depth pieces play on PP1?
How many power plays did we have the past couple years in big spots and fail to come through?
That’s on the core.
This years anticipated and existing failures are 100% on the players. Core especially.

After a sad nights sleep, I think Fitz should buy/swing for even more. Losing Jack sucks but acquiring the right talent to supplant Nico, Jesper, and Timo imo is an enough to keep us where we are at. Timo needs to go full March Madness mode though too.
We have a ton of cap space to use. And you can be over once the playoff rosters are handed in.

Two, we also do not have a first round pick this year. Not swinging and buying would be Fitz essentially resigning to be fired.

the Devils convert at 27.1% on the PP which is top 5 in the league.

again, what are you talking about?

We will get to see Meier on PP1 and as one of the main offensive drivers here without Jack. I really think we will see some much increased production in the next few weeks.

They were number #1 with a hot start and then fell off when teams adjusted and the games got tighter. Last year they started hot on the PP and then when it mattered they fell off. This year, same thing.
What’s their percentage that past few months

Where was the goal they needed last night?
Where was the several goals they needed in big PP spots throughout the year in a tight game?

It doesn’t matter if they’re record breaking in a season long PP%. It’s not consistent enough, does not convert when it’s really needed, and even when they don’t convert and have good movement they never build momentum off off it.

There is so much more context than that stat.

the games in October count the same as the games in March.

this notion that the PP has never come through in a "tight spot" in a "big game" (word salad nonsense) is just baseless.
