Our GM is too late, we are not one UFA away from being a SC contender. The GM should have made a 2 for 2 player chemistry trade deal in December. Do not trade the future for an 2 extra weeks of postseason, we might not even see it. Regroup this Summer and hopefully the owner might even consider a seasoned and proven GM.

Fitzpatrick had plenty of draft picks resulting from over a decade of losing hockey games, and plenty of good players right under his nose that have been wasted away over foolish moves.

what are you even yapping about? What "2 for 2 trade" was available? Give examples.

also, who is Fitzpatrick? What players right under his nose have been wasted away? Be specific. Miles Wood? Yegor Sharangovich? lmao

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisatl for Ben Lovejoy and Ben Lovejoy. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

You do think Luke Hughes joins the rush? He does more than most in the league.
He likes to lead the rush at this stage in his development and it’s more of a bull rush maybe, seems almost like he makes up his mind ahead of time to make it happen and goes even 1 on multiple defenders on occasions.

I would actually like to see Luke modulate his speed a little. Slow down and cruise, hold the puck when there’s nothing there and look around, stop and start, cut back instead of taking it wide and even circling the other team’s net or simply throwing it on goal when there’s no team mate around.

His ability to walk the line is still growing too. He should be able to affect play in the o-zone creating lanes the way Quinn does, but at this stage he seems more comfortable trying to skate down the boards and around the net.

My wife and I welcomed a baby daughter yesterday morning! We’re planning to bring her home from the hospital tonight.

I’ve already started her older brother into hockey fandom (his “let’s go Devils” chant is adorable), and we’re going to start him in skating lessons soon. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure my little girl grows up a hockey fan too.

Congrats. My girls love having Devils branded gear since they see me with it on. That more than anything is getting them invested.

That’s fantastic! I’m happy for you. I can offer you two boys for your daughter and a conditional pick. The boys are closer to UFA than your daughter but at least the older two have jobs. The youngest one is in college and moving him would be a huge cap dump and I’d have to sweeten the deal.

No mention of a 3C.

Meier is officially a 3rd line player:laugh:. Even Fitzgerald seems to have figured it out. Hopefully he gets traded this offseason.

Congrats!

Didn’t you just have a baby recently? Or maybe I’m just thinking of you announcing that you were expecting?

This does not imply that Meier is getting traded. Nor should he be. I've decided to see how he performs in the playoffs first. He also is no longer on the top PP.

I'm just surprised we did not see mention of a center foe the bottom 6.

Congratulations! There is nothing like the way a daughter can look at her father. She’ll have you wrapped around her finger in no time!

I really don't care about the actual Boqvist. I just hate that we've lost most of our speed and that explosive rush team we had in 22-23 seemed to be a one hit wonder and that's all we got to see out of it. We got glimpses of it last season as well as the year before that huge season we had. We still see it from time to time but the team has gotten a lot slower and aside from a few of our superstars we've lost that dynamic.

I'm sure moving on from some of the better skating defensemen and having them replaced with slower, non-offensive guys didn't help matters. And I don't honestly give a shit about Marino or god forbid the two defensemen who got stupid contracts and are now spending time as healthy scratches. Dougie Hamilton being a significantly slower and worse skater than two years ago is probably also a big deal.

And I especially don't give a shit about Miles Wood, who has like 4 points in 25 games this year (or maybe it's 5 after his assist the other night? Or is it actually 4? lol) and we knew that contract was terrible from the start, but it's already a doozy in year two.

I honestly don't think it's the coach or system. Keefe's teams were fast (mostly) and always shot above the league average shooting percentage and not just under like we are this year. Fast or not, this team definitely lacks forward/scoring talent right now.

In comparing this team with ‘23-‘24, I do think we miss Severson’s ability to join the rush. So that we would be coming up ice as a 4 or 5 man unit with the puck. And once gaining the zone he could cut back, had good creativity, could hit trailers and guys free on the seams.

So Severson, and Graves too, made us more effective on the rush.

But there was no way we could have retained Damian. The money he’s earning elsewhere was not in our budget. And Luke Hughes will before long have fully replaced him - though Luke at this point is still green - has less creativity but more raw foot speed and potential.
But Luke is better breaking out. In fact I say give him a green light to enter the zone. He stops to dish to a fwd coming behind him, just attack. If nothing else it gives defenders a reason to stay back and not line up on their own blueline

The GM has been here almost 10 years with lots of round one draft picks including 3 lottery wins.
Let's analyze from a top view rather than rating traded away players and debating their value.

You asked which players he could have acquired in a 2 for 2 trade? This would be a question for the GM since only he can privately network other GMs to create opportunities and make it happen.

As for the attached chart, Fitzgerald's track record speaks for itself with 1 playoff round won in almost a decade.

Let's analyze from a top view rather than rating traded away players and debating if they were worth it or not. After all the GM obviously has not fared very well.

I've been smearing him as much as anybody, but he only has 1 playoff round won (and 1 playoff berth) in half a decade.

He's been working here for a decade but not as the head guy in charge, and I don't think it's fair to hold the 5 years before he was the permanent GM against him.
