This playoff format does really suck. Right now Carolina and NJ are 2nd and 3rd in the conference and would play each other round one. That's crazy.

NJ/Canes road to the Cup is potentially:

RD1 vs. 2nd/3rd place in Conference
RD2 vs. Atlantic Division Winner
RD3 vs. President Trophy Winner

Probably would be more of an offseason trade but I wonder if something around Nemec for Owen Beck + higher of Montreal's 1st round picks could be a deal that makes sense for both teams. Nemec fits Montreal's needs for RD and has experience playing with Slafkosvky, while Devils get a long term NHL ready two way center and a top 15 pick to either trade for an impact piece or use to bolster a depleted prospect system.

Maybe so but at least for a half season he’s going to be extremely motivated.

His skill set also seems like the perfect guy to potentially compliment Hischier/Hughes or play on a solid third line. It basically would give the Devils another Palat option.

If he gets hot, you could make a case that the only extra need is 3C. Maybe even go all out for an option like Nelson.

I could see Florida having interest in Dougie, But their not trading they're future 2C for him.

I don’t think there’s any chance Florida trades Lundell, and I don’t know where Knight’s at, but Florida is the team I come up with too for Dougie.

The late of offense from their blue is glaring and they don’t have any in-house solutions in their system.

They’ve typically found smart budget adds for their defense but I’m not sure that fixes this if Ekblad walks and they’re just Forsling and a few depth pieces.

I could see them moving Rodrigues.
