We need a center for extra oomph? Jeez. Why didn't he draft Cooley again? I love Nemec but geez.
And to the poster who said Nemec is looking elsewhere - the article was the interviewer asking HIM and he diplomatically paddled it away. Nemec is blocked by handedness. The only player who could probably come out easily is Dillon and he's on the wrong side.
Noah Cates, Drake Batherson - although the latter is a little bit of luck where he was drafted and was passed over by everyone several times - we haven't drafted evenly. We've had some easy picks in the top four but even first round beyond have busted (in terms of being productive NHL players for us). We overreacted to D needs and left forward fallow. We have "streaky" drafts where we focus on one thing - size/physicality, Defense, etc. We have to draft better players, period, because we don't have quantity in the system up front. And we have literally zero at center.

Decent amount of time between now and the deadline, but I would not be adding rentals at this point in time. If things change and get better between now and then, maybe that changes my mind, but rentals feel like a waste of assets right now
Wait for the offseason. We are not a contender and we are not a player away. We're many players away and probably have to shake up the "core" a little to be better.

You can't just let this season die because you don't think this team is worth it, this isn't last year where they were legit bad and Lindy needed to go out the door. If they collapse out of the playoffs this year, Fitz is gonna get fired + someone from the core will get traded. They basically have to make a move at the deadline.
This is the result of Fitz neglecting the forward position in the last few drafts, especially center. Cant let this season die, need to make a move, even if it’s Nemec.

Zero forward depth, although Bastian-Lazar-Tatar have been maybe the best line over the past couple games. Top guys are sucking wind. Defensemen bring no offensive threat to the table aside from Luke on occasion.
This is all a result of Fitz being so focused on being “hard to play against” that he’s completely neutered this team’s skill and speed identity.
Same exact issue the last 5 games. Zero juice left after the first period. No one is skating well.
Wednesday to the Tournament is wake up time for this group. For the first time in a while they will have a 5 day stretch with only one game. The fatigue issue is no longer a viable reason for struggles.
Got Boston, Mtl 2x, Philly 2x, Buff, Pit, Vegas coming up. 10 pts at minimum here is expected.
I want Fitz to find an actual 3C. Because we are missing Haula. A top 6 winger would do wonders as well. Palat and Noesen shouldn’t always be in top 6. Also, he tries but Dowling isn’t doing anything.

2023 Carolina series did a number on this team's psyche as a management. Instead of seeing it as a good first step making it that far and slightly tweaking the roster, the management went hell bent on getting tougher which was a shame.

Yeah at the very least you gotta start breaking up lines and D-pairs. Siegs and Kovacevic are nice at keeping the puck out I guess, but offense dies there.

I spent another 1000$ at today's game and brought my kids and they saw another loss. I don't know how to stop this from occurring, I think in 6 games across 3 seasons, my kids have seen 6 straight losses. And I brought them to some guaranteed wins, like SJ and today's game.

Shane Wright barely has more points in his career than Nemec, it isnt like he is some surefire stud.

Ah, ok. I misunderstood what you meant, yeah that makes way more sense. Jared McCann would be my #1 but Seattle needs a HAUL and a half for that

I think we know what Mercer is at this point. A responsible player who is third banana on a line with two good players. You back to his 56 point and most of production came early in the stretch playing with Jack or late in the season playing with Nico. He’s like those guys who got out on a live with Crosby or Tavares back in the day and ate and then went elsewhere and disappeared.

He had that one insane stretch with Tatar and Nico late in the year. 12 games, 11 goals, 20 points. Understandably got everyone's up, but clearly a mirage at this point

That would be a pure panic trade and very bad from Fitz/company.
I still think Mercer's issue is mental. He doesn't go to the net or do anything like he did that in that February 2023 stretch. It could just be the forward version of what we saw with Blackwood in February 2020 but it also looks like Blackwood has gotten back on track this year after all these years lol. Maybe Mercer is a way way worse Palmieri in terms of streakiness
