Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part III

-A JT Miller move requires significant salary going back, either Hamilton or Palat needs to be in the deal for it to work capwise and both have a NMC they would need to waive.

-Miller definitely makes us better on the ice but I have major reservations about taking on a guy with 5 years remaining on his deal and is already on the wrong side of 30.

-Miller + Timo + Jack + Nico + Bratt is over 40M locked up in 5 players. I don't love that.

-I trust Fitz to do his due diligence regarding the locker room dynamic. That being said, trading a locker room favorite to bring a guy that wears out his welcome everywhere he goes sends a very particular message to the team.

Everything we know about this screams no, but then again I never in a million years would have guessed that Lou would trade for Ilya Kovalchuk.

Fitz trading for Miller would be a massive power play by him.

It's basically saying, "Screw everyone's feelings. I'm bringing a group together to win a Cup. This year. I think this guy can help. You guys figure out the room dynamics. "

Huge balls if he does it.

I don't think so. At least not mid season. One of them will probably have to do in the off season in a separate deal somewhere, but they don't have to be included in this one. It just may not be able to happen until closer to the deadline.

Palat should be able to speak on how he was in Tampa at least since they were teammates for a brief moment.

I suppose Quinn can text Jack and Luke about what a dick he is too

Exactly there's no way Jack/Luke wouldn't find out or know what's been going in with Miller because they could just ask Quinn about it. I'm sure Fitz would probably even ask what they have heard and run it by them too first.

Personally I'm good on not having him here, too much money, too long of a contract and after browsing too many stories about this guy being too much of a pain in the ass to be around .

I can't believe someone postulated that Timo Meier could be "part of a package" to get Miller.

Especially given Miller's limited NMC, his character concerns, and his hefty contract.

How do these people say cray shit like that and expect to be taken seriously?

Timo has a NMC. There is no world where he is included in any package for Miller.

Even without the potential locker room issues (if Miller really is as abrasive as he sounds), I don't know if adding a guy who turns 32 in 2 months and has 5 more years left at 8 million is a great idea.
it's not, it's a terrible idea. in the highly unlikely scenario that they trade for him, you just have to hope that Quinn told Jack he's actually not a psychopathic locker room cancer; however, this team does not need a JT Miller. they need depth for the bottom 6.

Call me funny but what are the thoughts of moving Luke to wing? Bring Nemec up as a natural defenseman

Yeah the Timo talk is crazy. why would we do that
Honestly, I would strongly consider Meier for Miller one for one.

Miller plays center, kills penalties, and would give us a bit more flexibility offensively.

Absolutely zero reason for Meier to waive his NMC so it’s a moot point.

It would be funny as hell if Fitzgerald brings Meier/Hamilton into a room and is just like “if you hear your name in trade rumors, just know I am not trading you, I just want to make sure the Rangers don’t get Miller for scraps”

Took a trip down to Vancouver board and someone suggested Meier+Silayev for Miller and next post someone said that Meier is basically Zibanejad. OH MY

I was just about to say...some of these trade offers for Miller that I see floating out there are LOL

Someone on the main board said Mercer, Siegs and Nemec for Miller and a pick

Jesus crack is a hell of a drug

Absolutely not trading a 28 year old Timo for a soon to be 32 year old Miller.

Type of move that closes windows earlier then they should
