JT can rack up the points for sure but I don't know if I want to mess up the good juju they have in the room rn. seems like a very close-knit group and adding him.. could be OK or could be a mess.

don't need that for this team right now

Gonna be honest, I’d really consider taking JT for the right price. now, that price would be essentially zero, and they’d help us get out from under say, Palat’s deal, but I’d think about it, just like Fitz is.

If it goes south we could just dump his ass on the Rangers

I agree with this but also I wonder if it’s a good locker room for Miller to join.

There’s a ton of veteran experience on this team now between Palat, Haula, Hamilton, Dillon, Pesce, and Markstrom. You cannot knock the effort or willingness to get better for any of the young guys like Hischier, Hughes, and Bratt. On the whole, the entire roster has dug in and is playing a full 200-foot game from top to bottom.

The thought with Miller is he is a bit of a hard ass and rubs teammates the wrong way, but what would he genuinely have to gripe over with this roster?

Maybe the idea is we can get him for much cheaper than we should be able to and you can move the contract later on down the line? I think today's NHL has proven you can move deals that werent possible a decade or so ago

He’s a hot head for sure. And there are clear concerns regarding his attitude, age, contract.

That said, if Fitz really makes a move for him, in addition to his own diligence, I’m 100% certain he’s taking to Jack and Luke about what they’ve heard from Quinn.

Honestly wouldn’t hate JT Miller for the right price. As others have mentioned, Palat and Markstrom would need to vouch, but I think toxicity stuff can sometimes be overblown, and he’d make our team better I think. Maybe he needs a change of scenery.

Palat should be able to speak on how he was in Tampa at least since they were teammates for a brief moment.

I suppose Quinn can text Jack and Luke about what a dick he is too

I feel like it’d revolve around Mercer+ and yeah while Miller’s obviously a massive upgrade the assets you sink into that deal might also prevent you from adding other pieces up front. The depth would still be absolutely brutal. I’d much prefer adding both Palms/Gourde. Yeah that’s not as big of a top 6 upgrade but I like the lineup a lot better with those 2 than I do swapping Mercer for Miller. It also doesn’t carry nearly the risk Miller does

I feel like if we were in on him there would have to be retention. We can't fit him in without.

They’re not retaining for 5 years and we can also fit him without retention.

Markstrom also crossed paths with him in Vancouver for a year.

I would trust Fitzgerald making the move solely as I don’t see him doing it without vetting it through Palat, Markstrom, Luke, and Jack.

This could also be Vancouver folks trying to will something into existence. It wouldn't be the first time their front office put rumors out there involving us
It’s trying to drive up the price for the Rangers. Miller has a no move clause that limits the market. If he is willing to go to the Rangers then he is probably also willing to go to a playoff team 12 miles away. So you have to float the Devils out there as a stalking horse.

If your Fitz let them do it and drive up the price.

the thing is with some people it doesn't matter if they have things to gripe about or not - some people are just assholes or whiny jerks and if they want to find something to complain about they will

Maybe so, but then again that’s where your first hand accounts from Palat and Markstrom and second hand accounts from Jack/Luke are critical.

I will say my one major concern is why he was shipped out of Tampa. That may be the biggest red flag especially since it happened right before they won their cups, but Palat can opine on that.

Maybe it was just cap/roster reasons, but if it was for personal reasons, it’s a bit worrisome given what that team was able to accomplish since then.
