I wonder if the Devils could do a Hamilton for Miller trade and bring up Nemec.

It would be incredibly ballsy to do but I wouldn’t hate that.

Looking at the strictly hockey side I’m into that. I just do not want JT Miller on the team. Palat would have to vouch for him HARD and Miller would have to be on his best behavior. Miller is “dickhead” Fitz said he doesn’t want.

This also doesn’t into get into Dougie having a NMC and no reason to waive to go to a mess of a team that’s worse than us.

I don’t even know what a trade would look like. I assume Mercer would need to be going the other way. Would really not have much interest without retention which I very much doubt would happen with that much term left.

I had a Mercer / Miller thought last night. I can understand the appeal for Fitz.

Throw all that out the window for a second, how are we even fitting him under the cap this year?

This year is less of an issue as they get closer to the deadline, tbh. They've been accruing cap space since the start of the year. Puckpedia has their projected deadline space at 5.6M, and by that point Miller's daily cap accrual for the rest of the year shouldn't hit that much.

only way I could see a JT Miller trade making sense would be if Hamilton was willing to waive his NMC and it was a 1 for 1 type trade.

Still wouldn’t like that contract but at least you’re saving $1M the next 3.5 seasons on the cap, acquiring a player who can play center or wing and opening up a spot for Nemec.

Halonen going down could also be a cap space move; might just get called right back up tomorrow

Yeah, it's definitely possible this is it. We've been doing it all season long to work our cap space for the deadline.

I really don't know about this. Kick the tires all you want, but it would be a pretty significant move on the ice and the locker room. He's a hell of a productive player, but is that who you really want to bring into the room the way things are currently shaking out? And with that contract until 2030?

maybe relevant, maybe not

Is that Palat’s music?

But really, if the Devils were to acquire Miller it really needs to include one of the older salaries going back the other way to even begin to make it reasonable and then the Devils will figure out long term cap layer.

Looking at TheAthletic's trade board when it comes to centers Gourde is really the only guy that interests me. I like Nelson decently well but he's not a 3C. He's the finisher you put with Jack-Bratt that also helps take draws. Laughton's not that good and I don't think Philly parts with him for cheap. You'd also likely be hitching your wagon to him for next season since he has an extra year. Granlund's a black hole defensively and his production is inflated by the PP and getting so much ice time. He's not a 3C. Bjugstad's "fine". If RoR's an option I'm very into him but he's not going to come cheap when he still has another 2 years at 4.5 after this. Idk if we could really swing that one.

from what I have seen, the Kraken fans have said that Gourde really is not as effective at C anymore, and would be best deployed at wing.

That's a lot of cap and assets for that

Yeah like obviously it'd be nice to have a superstar with Jack-Bratt but I don't think it's worth sinking what you'd need to sink into it to make it happen.

Maybe that ends up being the case but if we're going center I'd rather take the risk on Gourde than the other options.

That's what I was wondering too, I admit to not have been following the drama too much but is he worth the headache if he's actually been an issue in Vancouver like some have said.

Wyshynski saying on Twitter that Miller’s NMC is limited to Pittsburgh and the NYC area.

So this is either Devils trying to see if they can get Miller for cheap given he’s limited Vancouver’s options or maybe it’s all just a ploy to get the Rangers to cough up more than they are willing to.

Miller struggling to finish this year? It feels like he’s a Devils already. :sarcasm:

Timo Meier would be PART of the package lol

I like these guys but they don't know dick

The NMC in combination with them just really wanting to get rid of Miller TANKING his value is the only thing that makes this whole thing make some sense. I still think hitching your wagon to a guy who will be 32 making 8 mil for another 5 years after this and is a "dickhead" is a BOLD move with big potential to backfire.

Call me funny but what are the thoughts of moving Luke to wing? Bring Nemec up as a natural defenseman

lol
