I don’t get the histrionics over Bastian playing with Jack. Putting a puck retrieving grinder on the top line is pretty standard stuff, especially when that line is struggling and the grinder is playing well.

that is what Palat is lol

yeah okay, Bastian is "playing well" but having a next to useless player playing with our superstar player doesn't seem like the recipe for success. It isnt a big deal because when it inevitably doesn't work, it will be changed rather quickly. At least I hope so.

Palat is with Jack because he’s a $6 million disaster with anyone else. If you want something to be mad about, be mad that this team is suddenly buried under a bunch of medium term contracts for sub-par talents.

Bastian is a marginal NHLer, I would never pretend otherwise. But he’s also one of the only forwards on the entire roster that has any ability to forecheck at all. Jack and Bratt are both awful forecheckers. If Bastian can retrieve some pucks and help keep Jack in the zone a little more, it could help Jack get back into his groove. It’s not a long term solution because eventually Bastian’s lack of skill will cost that line too much production, but given how the team is playing right now, it’s just not that strange a move.

Hey I'm all for experiments. After all we're losing every game so time for a shake up. I don't think this Bastian experiment will work out but what do I know. If it was up to me I would've tried throwing Noeson with Hughes. Idk why but I have a strange feeling he would compliment Hughes perfectly. We already know Bratt works with Nico so no conplaint there. I would also try putting Meier back at RW. The one time we ever tried him there he was scoring goals left and right, he went on a tear.

I can see Fitz making a trade that nobody expected or thought about for a depth 7th Dman and forward in one deal and it will be out of nowhere. Maybe a D from Utah and Lawson Crouse for Seamus Casey, 2 2nds. Maybe another sweetener.

Or Bjorkstrand and Mahura from Seattle. Etc

We should have about 5 to 6 mill at the deadline.

Logan Crouse who has 10 points on the season?

For Seamus Casey + MULTIPLE 2nds?

List of NJD forwards with a worse PPG than crouse this year:

Justin Dowling
Curtis Lazar

Crouse is a big body, under term and under 28. This fits the type of player of Fitz mold. He also averages over 20 goals a season. If we are looking for depth he works well. We keep Nemec and Silayev and Mercer. And we still keep one 2nd. I am okay with overpaying for someone if we are buyers. But not mortgaging the future. We do not need to fix our power play. I also included a depth dman coming our way.

I agree with him as a target, I do not agree with the price.

He is currently putting up less PPG than NATE BASTIAN.

You don't give up Seamus Casey + a pair of seconds for that. You don't give up casey alone. Or a pair of 2nds. Or even a singular 2nd tbh.

Replace crouse with "Josh Anderson" and it sounds exactly like what habs fans were trying to spin back then.

He's making 4.5 mill a year and is on pace for 18 points.

I'm not concerned about fixing the powerplay. I want to add some production to the middle/bottom 6. Our Power play is/will be fine. Yes Crouse is having a bad year but I'd gamble he will bounce back.

Nowhere in my entire post was the word power play.

You seem to be missing the point.

LAWSON CROUSE IS NOT CURRENTLY PRODUCING.

Among every single forward in the league who makes at least 4 mill, Crouse ranks DEAD LAST in points per game at a PITIFUL 0.22.

You had said Dowling and Lazar are the only 2 worse PP numbers. That's why I mentioned the power play. I like Andwrson also! He is another one.i still bet on Crouse getting hot after a trade. But that could he because I always liked the kid.

Market value for a 28 year old making g 4.5 for 4 more years even on a bad year is 2 2nds (if not a 1st) and a rop 5 prospect in the organization. No? If we can get him for less sign me up sooner.

There is no need to be handing out lifeboats. If you think he'd be better here, sure, target him. But no reason to give positive value for a guy who has been utterly atrocious this year.

Point. Per. Game.

Dowling and Lazar are the only players on our team with less points per game than Crouse, who again, has a pathetic 10 points on the year

Gotcha. i should put that together lol. Regardless, I like my deal. Obviously I'd start with one of our 3 2nds I'd dangle two though if I had to.

Keep in mind my proposal also included us getting a depth Dman back from Utah (someone who can step in). It might end up being Hataaka now that he looks healthy.

Utah's depth dman is literally Nick DeSimone.

Again.

Lawson Crouse is currently playing at a level where he is SIGNIFICANTLY underperforming his contract.
