Idk why Devils fans think this, they're a legit a monster of a team this year. Yeah, they're shooting at a % stupid rate but their backend is the best in the league and they have scoring depth all over the lineup. Only thing they can really do to upgrade is say get a depth goalie because Lindgren/Thompson could get hurt or fall off the deep end. The Thompson add was one of the best ones in the league. Kinda wish we got Thompson in the Holtz/Schmid package but he got traded earlier in the day on day 2 at the draft last year.

I get what you’re saying, but the stars and the universe are absolutely aligning for them this year. It has been a total team effort. On paper, they are not particularly great though, and that’s why everyone keeps expecting a decline.

Speaking of Hamilton. What about a trade of Hamilton for Spencer Knight and like a 2nd round pick in the offseason.
I initially had a strong negative reaction to this idea. But, if this actually happened, I could see Fitz defending the idea of shedding $4.7 from our cap, getting a year of Knight to see if he's a fit, and picking up a draft pick.

If we're trading Dougie to Florida, you're probably right that Knight is a prime piece to come back. They don't really have anyone else with a significant contract who is als tradeable.

Still, I think we could get more useful pieces back for Dougie.

I think Florida is a good fit because they also have a need. Their D has taken a hit and they don't have a natural PP QB on the team currently (or prospectively). Separately I think Dougie would be willing to waive given competitiveness, weather, taxes, etc.

We could also target another prospect of theirs in addition to Spencer Knight (McAllister, Vilmanis). I doubt they would part with Samoskevich but he'd be great to get.

I'd take a flyer on Toews as a bottom six player if the money fit ?

VPN services - ExpressVPN is a paid service and can work on devices (phones, laptops, and AppleTV-type boxes) or on a router to obfuscate traffic on the entire network. In my house I have two ethernet networks - one is permanently on a VPN connection and the other is regular internet. ExpressVPN overwrote the firmware of the VPN network's router, and then provides that VPN service to the whole network. Now, Express has clients for AppleTV etc that it did not have before, so you may not need it.

A caveat is that some of the services are cottoning on to this, and know that some of the source IP addresses are associated with VPN services, and block it anyway! So that's a bummer.

Another alternative is WireGuard. If you have a friend or family member elsewhere who has a TP-Link Deco router, they can enable a WireGuard server on the router that would allow you to connect to that network as a client and tunnel through their Internet. This is entirely free. Alternatively, you can buy a $35 Raspberry Pi computer, configure it to be a VPN WireGuard host, and send it to that person to plug into their network and tunnel in that way.

There are ways.

I've been reading everyone's grievances on this topic for many days now but I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post anything about using VPN or "circumventing". But since the topic is open now, I'll fill you all in the best solution --

VPN + NHL.tv

NHL.tv has zero black outs and it doesn't care where the game is available in the US. You have access to every single game with both home and away audios and full access to every single game replay on demand. I paid $116 for the entire year (calendar year) so it'll include playoffs.

Get a cheap vpn (I use privatevpn - $72 for 36 months) and connect to any european country (prefer switzerland) and I can stream effortlessly. The pings are 130ish but it still streams in full HD without a glitch.

Enjoy.

I'm not sure why Florida is moving Knight. I don't think that they are in any cap stress with Ekblad falling off the cap even with having to re-sign Bennett. Bob's time is short, so they are going to need Knight sooner rather than later.

Curious which play this was on. I vaguely recall one he got called for and I just assumed he was clumsy.

The fine seems excessive, lol. I think he put a little into it, but nothing egregious, no worse than most dives. Dougie is sometimes just clumsy as hell anyway.

Do they fine every dive as a rule? Or did Dougie just get singled out.

EDIT: okay I see from another X post he was warned in early November on another one so this is a fine for second occurrence.

Someone ask necas if he got fined...

It’s automatic based on number during the season.

It that were to happen I don't think we're getting a pick back unless we retain half.

I don't agree.

I understand that Hamilton has two additional years on his contract, but he's at worst going to be a top notch power play specialist. At best he's a pretty significant play driver.

It's entirely possible that Spencer Knight is an AHL goalie.

Unless the Devils are obviously stuck in cap hell, they should be able to get more back than a $4.5 million scratch off ticket.

It’s a 9m cap hit - contenders will not be able to accommodate that without retention.

I agree that the Dougie's cap hit is hard for any contender to take by itself. But, if the Devils take a contract back, it's not unreasonable. Plus, each team has their own circumstances.

In this scenario, Florida is losing $10 million Bobrovsky and trading $4.5 million Knight, and the cap is increasing by $4 million - $5 million.

In my theoretical scenario, Florida is simply not resigning Ekblad and effectively replacing him with Hamilton while shedding Knight's contract.

To be honest, I agree. Logically makes the most sense to make a minor fix by moving Tatar up. In theory, he should help some of the issues the third line has, so I don’t quite understand why it hasn’t been done sooner.

It’s just strange because the bottom six as a whole has good pieces, they just don’t quite mesh well together offensively.
The Nico Noesen Meier line has been one of the best in the league since being put together . No way I’m breaking that line up. We have two dominant lines as is. Leave it as is and look to add to the bottom 6 .
Gourde Or Vatrano or Granlund added would be ideal

Hi friends! There was an article about your GM at the Sharks game yesterday and we were debating who he might be scouting. Granlund? Sturm/Kunin? Zetterlund?

What do you think? Also, is there any world where Nemec is expendable and if so, what can you see it taking to get him? the Sharks desperately need young D prospects.

I don’t think Nemec is available for any of the players you mentioned.
I hope Granlund is who we are targeting but could use any of the ones you mentioned . I can’t see Sharks moving Zetterlund . I would think he is part of their plans moving forward and going to be one of their core pieces .

Yeah, I think it would need to be a much bigger deal — Granlund, a 2nd, maybe a prospect like Graf. Just curious if he’s totally untouchable.

We love Granlund on the Sharks so a lot of us would want an overpay (a 1st for example) for him, unless he doesn’t want to re-sign here.

I agree, Zetts is part of the future.

I would definitely think the first three names are ones in play. Granlund would be an excellent upgrade for our 3C spot, and Sturm or Kunin would add some new life to our bottom 6 that has been a bit listless the past few games.

We would all adore bringing Zetterlund back but I imagine he is not on the table from San Jose’s perspective.

Nemec likely isn’t available right now, but next offseason will bring some intrigue if we re-sign Kovacevic as it will really crowd the right side with him, Pesce, Hamilton, Nemec and Seamus Casey. I would think if we do move Nemec at all, it would be in a package for a significant piece.

I'd love to get Zetterlund, I think he's a perfect fit for this team. I think a good veteran forward could help guys like Celebrini & Smith, so I'd be willing to part with someone like Timo Meier.

Now a deal like that may take some finessing - if we're talking add-ons, I'd also love a good, young defenseman prospect coming back say Shakir Mukhamadullin? In return though, we can throw Santeri Hattaka, he's been injured this season but I think he has some good promise you may like.

There may be some draft picks that need to be mixed in there too though, say a conditional 1st & 2nd from the Sharks and a 7th round pick from the Sharks as well, in return we can throw in a 5th round pick from our end. Oh, and if Andreas Johnsson is still on the Sharks throw him in too.
