From Jersey w/ Love
I wouldn't trade Nemec and I would take a wait and see approach. But I honestly do think we need to rethink what that ceiling is. And in that wait and see does Casey surpass him? That changes the calculus.

I somewhat agree here - and it may not be a bad thing. Look at Kaapo Kakko. Disappointment for a 2nd overall pick? Yes. Still a good NHL player? Yes. I guess I hope that is the worst-case scenario.

So Nemec may not be the stud we all hoped for - but I personally believe he will be a good NHL player.

Maybe some posters are trying to maximize his value now (for a shot at a potential better player/pick.... logjam, etc.).

He's not an untouchable player for me. But I would like some real good value back in a trade.

He played on a crap Devils team last year. Imagine if he got to play with Pesce? Then he got injured this year.

So i'll agree on the wait and see approach. Our 2nd overall pick Dmen from just 2 years ago. And now he's also playing on a crap AHL team.

It took me all this damn time to find it.... acknowledge it.... belligerent and wrong isn't a good combo.

Post in thread 'Devils team discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part IV' Devils team discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part IV

"You'll see...

As soon as there is another option he'll be buried deep on the 3rd pair or out of the lineup. And you'll be whining about about how he's being handled by the new coach. But I'll be here to remind "
Except it isn’t even what you said. You didn’t say he’d be out of the lineup this season in that quote. And when is that from because you talked all summer about him being in the lineup. lol I can’t with you man

I thought it was someone else who propagated the Nico is a 3C. I recall Jim suggesting the team shoukd should trade Hischier for what amounted to addition by subtraction. I think his silence on the issue is something of an acknowledgment that was not a hill worth dying on.
It was 100% him and he fully did call him a 3C. He’s just full of it as usual

What is the the prediction in that post?
Where is the prediction in that post?

Problem is many people make up stories in their troubled minds....there is no prediction in that post.
Are we actually gonna act like that last paragraph isn’t you fully suggesting people would see how much better Mercer is than Hughes once they played together?

We bitch a lot here, but the Devils are in first place. Two points behind the Jets for first place overall. 7-2-1 over the last ten games. Playing sound defense and limiting shots. All buying in.

I don't care about Nemec playing in Utica. Perhaps they can't re-sign Kovasevic. Palat's contract is what it is.

Let's enjoy the moment. Happy Holidays!
Nah let’s bitch about a player who is on a 6 win Utica team instead !

@JimEIV you have an uncanny ability to turn anything positive into a negative. It’s so contrarian. This team is playing great hockey right now enjoy the ride it’s funner that way

1st in Goals against per game
7th in goals for per game
1st in the east
7th in hits
On pace for 50 wins.

NHL record of holding teams to 20 shots or less (something no team under Lou did) mind you by a core you absolutely despise who you have often mislabeled ever since hischier/hughes walked in the door.

This is high comedy....

Remember when no other under 20 year old had as many goals per game as Holtz....

Dominating the AHL for a high pick is baseline not an accomplishment. And this kid isn't even holding baseline this season
His team was putrid to start the year. Struggling to score = +/- and assist totals probably won't be great. It isn't excuse for him to be standing out or not but it will effect his point totals. He also wasn't known to be a player who was going to rack up 70 plus points a season. His ceiling is a smooth two way defensmeman who gives you 50ish points a season. He is still young and he looked good at times last season , better than Luke defensively too.

Can't give up on him too early but if he can be a part of a significant trade for a big piece to really strengthen the Devils roster for a cup run, then do it. Maybe another team is desperate for future defensman and are willing to swap him for a forward prospect as well.

Still think the optimal decision is to add a top 6 forward to push Palat down. Someone like Nelson (ideal), Vantrano or Hall (cheaper option asset wise) could be good targets.

Nelson/Vatrano/Hall-Hughes-Bratt
Meier-Nico-Noesen
Palat-Haula-Mercer
Cotter-Lazar-Bastian

Also wouldn't mind adding a Jake Evans or Gourde for the 3rd line C role to push Haula down, but I think we are probably have 1 move up front that could cost us noteworthy assets and perhaps a lesser move for the 12th/13th forward spot. Perhaps if we got Hall, we could still spend the assets for one of these players for the 3rd line.

The responses he has with "Taurine Footie" are pretty entertaining.

Browsing through some now and came across this, glad to see some whining they will never come back because they were "attacked" aka heckled.

Love to see it but I also wish we had away sections only and no away fans allowed anywhere else. If I ever hit the lotto and buy the team it's the first policy I'm changing.

He wasn't good at all. His game was full is full of holes and his reads were bad the entire time.

Come on, Kovacevic is a journeyman 28 year old that has never found a real home in the NHL that's what beat our #2 overall pick out of a spot...how many top 5 picks are in the AHL at 21 years old?

He wasn't as good as you think...if he was, he'd be in the lineup being allowed to work through some of kinks...but he's been bad

He's probably not even the next D inline for a call up. Maybe not even the the second.

First of all, Kovacevic was brought in for pretty much this season. They didn't bring someone in for 3 years. Granted, they will try to sign him now because he has the second best defensive rating in the NHL, right behind he partner, but regardless, you're acting as if they didn't have a spot for him if there was an injury or even after this year.

Who exactly is he going in for?

Lets look at pairings with 300 minutes together.

Luke - Pesce line are #2 in Expected Goal % in the entire league and only getting better

Jonas - Kovacevic are #3 in Expected Goal % in the entire league and you can make a very good argument it's the best defensive pairing in the league

That leaves Dillon and Dougie but really Dougie since they both play the same side. Well you can't move Dougie right now because of his NTC.

So where exactly is he playing and why are we expecting a 20 year old to be literally one of the best offensive or best defensive defenseman in the league to bump someone out?

Wish our owners would wake up and do something like this. Love seeing more owners wake up and realize there are other ways of doing things that will still make them money without ripping off fans...

I can't remember the last time I truly ate Prudential Center, I'll usually eat before I leave the house and maybe get a beer or 2 at the game or American Whiskey/Redd's with something to pick on before heading inside but the food really fell off at Prudential for me to even comment on it anymore. The chicken tenders used to be really good but I don't even trust those anymore lol

I just want to remind everyone that JimEIV hated Andy Greene while Greene was in his first few seasons for the Devils, too. He's not the best judge of young defensemen.
Lol. It's true.

It's also true Andy Greene wasn't very good pre-2010. It's also true that there was almost a universal dislike for Andy Greene on these boards except for one poster.

Just a couple of more things....

Andy Greene didn't show much until he was 27 years old.... Andy Greene was 25 years old by the time he played his first real season here(played 23 games at 24 years old played most of 2006 in the AHL in Lowell)

Andy Greene was an undrafted free agent signing after 4 full NCAA years and was never being assessed as a prospect or younger player by anyone on this board...and Andy Greene was NEVER a "young" defenseman here in New Jersey...so your post is kind of stupid.

Merry Christmas though.
