All this new fan talk, What ever happened to LokiDog's NJD fandom attempt.. after that playoff series?

He went from the best show in Broadway to here and back.

That was either the most elaborate troll attempt in recent board history......or it just didn't pan out.

--

Coming from the Sabres is a whole another beast, welcome aboard.

I agree with all the intro recaps on our players, hope that helps.... We welcome all sort of characters. Lot of different players to like on this team. Lot of interesting posters with varying styles of optimism and cynicism (and some doomerism). Optimism is the key ingredient these days. I don't really agree on all the Dougie and Palat casting off ideas, but it's definitely a theme here and has some decent thought rationale for it. I'm more of stability and not shaking the house too much, that's just me.

We've seen @sabremike walking around prudential center, a whole bunch the last few seasons.

This almost feels like a dispersal fan draft, like in the old days when Thrashers had to dismantle.

Shout-out @Rhodes 81

Hey, Devils fans. How do you all feel about taking in strays? I am a lost sabres fan who just can't handle it anymore. It's so bad. Not just the losing. You get used to that. But the way the organization/franchise has become an absolute joke and laughing stock of the league is just too much for me. So i am looking for a team to support that might actually give me a return on my investment of money, time, etc.
With all of that said, i am wondering if anyone can give me a brief summary of the team. Style of play. How the coaches are doing. Best players. Players you want to ship to the moon. I can absolutely look this all up myself, but sometimes it's easier to get behind something when you hear it straight from the mouths, fingers, keys, whatever of other people. So if anyone is willing, i'd appreciate your perspective for a potential new fan.

Also, i hope this is the right place to post this. If it's not, or if it's inappropriate at all then i hope the mods are able to delete my post. Sorry if i derail your current topic of discussion. Thanks for your consideration.

I think @sabremike needs to chime in on this. ;)

But seriously, if you want to join us, you're welcome to.

Does anyone know the answer to the trivia question from the Devils broadcast last night ? It was name 3 Devils that they traded away that played for the organization. I knew Zajac was a lock and most likely Greene. Langenbrunner was my guess for the 3rd player since they were playing the Blues and he did play there although we traded him back to Dallas before he signed there as a UFA. I know Pandolfo put in his time here but I can't recall how his time here ended...I know he played for the Isles and the Bruins. I can't remember if we traded him and/or Rolston to the Islanders. I think Rolston was a cap dump move and Pandolfo signed there as a UFA and Lou let him walk respectfully. My final guess is Zajac , Greene and Langenbrunner.

Wow I looked it up and Langenbrunner only played 500 and chanfe games for the Devils. That's crazy , it felt like he played here for longer than that. He did miss a season due to the lockout in 2004/05 but I'm still suprised.

I never knew we traded Johnny Mac to the Sharks. After looking up his games played and career point totals, Johnny Mac had a really really good career. I know the fanbase has a soft spot for him but he really was a damn good player. Parts of 13 seasons for the Devils , he should get a spot in the ring of honor at some point. I'd say with Lemaire next and Lou being a lock for one the next 2 worthy people for a spot have to be Larry Robinson or Johnny Mac IMO.

Watch the games, post your thoughts without being a dick, and simply have a good time. It's a fun time for the Devils.

Between the Devils and the NY Sirens, all you have to do is play at Prudential to be a good hockey team this year :sarcasm:
I didn't know Women's hockey was back in Newark. Don't love that it's "NY" but whatever.

Do they ever have a pregame thing where a couple hours prior to the Devils game the women are playing? Or even a practice? I'd poke in. I'd like to check it out but Newark is too far for me just to go up and watch the women on their own.

Made it there last night, that second period was complete dominance.

Hope the word gets out more about them and more folks show up; it doesn't help that they were the worst PWHL team last year and that of the six markets this one is probably the least "hockey mad", but they look strong as hell so far this year and it'd be great to have more people in the arena.

For anyone wondering, sounds like the Sirens are practicing out of the Devils' old stomping grounds: South Mountain/Codey Arena in West Orange.

We're a very welcoming bunch. Well, most of us anyway!. Especially to strays, we understand the frustration. I'm a New York Jets fan, so if anyone can similarly relate to your plight it's us.

Feel free to join in the discussion and ask away with any questions. As others have mentioned, the team is in a very exciting position right now. Keefe has the group playing structured, disciplined and inspired hockey. There is plenty of young talent on the roster that we know can light the lamp, but under Ruff last year, it became apparent that the fine details of the game were lacking along with the complete inability to get a save.

The team feels very complete on the backend with the defense we have and the strong veteran tandem of Markstrom and Allen. We have a lot of talent up front, but maybe feel the depth isn't quite there and that an addition to the 3rd or 4th line will be useful towards the deadline. Hope you enjoy and get into it!

Is there some kind of actual connection to this team you have? Every team will have its ups and downs so why this team specifically?

I explained in a previous post that i while my dad was a huge sabres fan, and the reason i became one as well, his best friend growing up was a huge devils fan. Whenever he was around he had his devils jersey on and because i liked that guy a lot it left an impression on a young me. Also, bratt and hischier are on my fantasy team and have been my most consistent players, so i figured why not check the team out as a whole. Also, and i didn't mention this in my previous post, when my friends and i used to play NHL13 be a GM mode, i picked the devils and really enjoyed beating my friends

Yes, every team has ups and downs, but the sabres are.....well. Everytime i think they can't get lower, they defy the odds. It's not worth my time anymore. Someone else mentioned that NJ has only made the playoffs twice in the last 12 years? That's a hard stretch too. that run you had two seasons ago was a impressive. I remember a podcast host describing your success as being so far on the high end of advanced stats that what the team was doing was unsustainable just by practical standards. Then the team continued to sustain their success.

I am a big enough hockey fan to know a little about your team and its history. I know that Gretzky called your team a mickey mouse organization in the 80's. Then the franchise turned it around in the 90's through to the early aughts. Brodeur obviously played a part in that. I know that things have been hard for you all on and off for a while. The kovalchuk contract and his subsequent departure must have really hurt the team's ability to acquire/retain talent and develop. I think my peripheral knowledge really tanks around the time Taylor Hall came in. Everyone paid attention to the NJD of two years ago because of the advanced statistics. and i know (and someone else mentioned) that injuries really derailed your season last year.

Anyways, that's a collection of reasons why i decided to ask about the club.

the old guard also played a role in us floundering in the mid-late 10s (Lou + Conte for Scouting)

Ray Shero adopted an old core with horrible prospects and our lack of success landed us nico and hughes during his tenure (we also rebuilt prospects thanks to Paul Castron). biggest trade is def the Hall trade (turning Adam Larsson into a lot of good pieces, including Dawson Mercer)

Fitzgerald came in after a lot of years of suck and has really made some good low-cost trades and played hardball with our core to lock them up to good deals. after a few years with lindy + inconsistent goaltending, seems we've turned a corner with keefe and markstrom

Seems good enough reason for me! Was just curious.

Yes, it looks like we're finally starting to see success, but you just never know. We've had 2 times where it looked like we're finally gunna turn it around lol
