Did these people just start watching hockey? Goalies break their sticks over the goal posts like 20 times every year.
Yea like…what?!? Goalies do this all the time, I truly don’t understand the hate Luke gets. Probably has to do with him actually living up to his pre-draft ceiling so far and a lot of pundits having to eat crow.

Throw a water bottle, slam a stick, toss your gloves, knock stuff over.... don't bother me none. Things gets intense when you're a competitor and sometimes emotions run over... I'll never begrudge an athlete for letting it spill occasionally.

Agreed. For me, it’s only a problem if a player is acting like this for selfish reasons. If a guy is complaining about his ice time or usage, floating and refusing to play defense, talking shit about his teammates, or other diva shit, and then acting out, that’s one thing. You get those guys off the team immediately.

But if he’s a solid contributor and a good teammate and then he gets mad about losing a highly emotional game, I’m totally fine with that.

Luke falls firmly in the latter camp.

I'm not sure why it would be considered a bad thing that a player got frustrated over a loss? Much rather that then seemingly not caring.

Especially considering there could be an argument that in years past there was probably a little complacency with the losses eventually.

I love seeing Luke play a game that well and still be pissed off because they didn’t win

Stick smashing's alright as long as they didn't eat dinner after

If a mod hadn't brought that dead rat of a Hughes post here, I would've objected more strenuously. The original post is clickbait and the quote tweet is an attempt at gaining clout. I don't know why anyone would care about either opinion.

Just thinking about the defense this morning

7th in the league in goals against with 91. The reason that is so impressive is that they are 8 away from top in the league and they have played 1-6 more games than everyone ahead of them.

Even more impressive is that since Luke-Pesce came back from injury, the D pairs have been together every single night.

Dillon-Hamilton
Siegenthaler-Kovacevic
Hughes-Pesce

I don't remember anything like this in most of my life watching this team.

Third best goal differential in the league.

Fifth best goals for (this is where games played makes the stat less exciting)

4-1-1 in their last 6 at home for those concerned they stink at home.

A win tomorrow against the Rangers would put the vibes at an all time high... similar to the west road trip and the 13 game heater of 2022-2023.

I know I posted it before but now it is definitely true - Stefan Noesen is having by far the best season of a second-time Devil. I have no idea who is even in second place. Albelin? Rolston? Arnott? I guess it's Sykora, who scored 20 goals, which is probably the most goals by anyone here for a second time. Noesen will eclipse that if he stays healthy.

It's probably Scott Clemmensen, even with this Noesen season. His 2008-2009 season was technically during his second stint with the Devils (of three).

Albelin, Sykora, and Lemieux also had solid returns, but none of them singlehandedly saved the Devils' season like Clemmensen did.

Forgot about goalies, yeah I think Clemmensen is the pick. Lemieux was fine and obviously he won a Cup but he was basically a 3rd line forward - that's better than Arnott or Rolston but not by a whole lot.

I think he is the key to our PP success this season.

5v5 Keefe has been reluctant to use him in the top 6 but that may have changed last night. Interested to see how that plays out.

Somewhat related is Mercer and Dowling had good on ice #'s last night, both with Hughes, but as well as Haula. If Dowling Haula Mercer can get a little something going that would be helpful, and then sprinkling in a little Hughes with those wingers to get their offensive juices going is a nice touch too.
