hey, nobody says that icing 18 sociopaths who purposely injure the best players on the other team leaving no ability to retaliate because the whole roster is disposable sociopaths is a real strategy. Nobody has advocated for that previously.
Yeah nobody here has ever advocated for that. And why would they? It’d be a crazy thing to repeatedly advocate for in a variety of threads across this board, even as just one more entry in a users hypothetical portfolio of long running marginally funny bits that he or she does mostly to pass the twilight before their ever more quickly approaching dotage.

I'm sorry, I forgot to cite you on my little diatribe. I know you're being facetious but then again maybe not... I kind of agree haha.

I have yet to hear a cogent explanation of why it wouldn't work beyond not enough really big and violent sociopaths being available.

How would you find those players anyway like you said? Skill is still needed to win NHL games, people misconstrue Tom Wilson and Brad Marchand regularly as goons when they're elite hockey players especially Tom Wilson. If you're advocating for 18 Matt Rempe esque players then that team is gonna be a lottery/dogshit team yearly.

The shutout thing is just strange. Don't care too much about the retaliation stuff.

Also, are we really paying Meier that much to be a 60 pt forward? I expect him to heat up at some point, maybe it's even better if he does it in the backhalf of the year. But between him, Palat and Mercer, that's a lot of cap inefficiency.

If you can find me an 18 minute a night forward available for under 4 mill, let me know.

If it makes you feel better you can Swap Timo and Noesens PP points in your mind.

Hello. It's your favorite John Marino hater.

What would Jersey fans opinion be of a Bunting at 50% for Mercer trade?
Not in a million years.

Meier not being on the powerplay hurts his points a bit; I think he ends up there someday. And the shutouts are definitely weird!

Interestingly Meier's overall point production at 5v5 is pretty good. 7 goals, 7 assists for 14 points on the season which is good for 3rd amongst NJ fwds.

But in the last 15 games he only has 2 goals, 3 assists for 5 points, even though his shot rate, scoring chances, hd chances have all been significantly better then his first 15.

If he keeps playing like he has the points, and especially the goals will start piling up.

You might be right . Idk, maybe he replaces Noesen at some point if he cools off? Just a few games as a tryout?
Why?

Who cares who the points come from.

The only reason to do something like that would be to

a) stroke egos
b) try to artificially keep a pending free agent's price down
c) try to artificially inflate a guy you're trying to sell's value

I thought that if he was scoring more on the PP then maybe thatd raise his confidence and hed do better off of it too. But we are good with what we have, Im just a big Timo fan is all lol

If it wasnt for the faceoffs like @Zajacs Bowl Cut reminded me once, Id try him in place of Nico so he can be well rested for more important minutes!

But im just being greedy with what I want to see lol. I hope it happens someday though and works out!

Uh, @MasterofGrond , you’re responding to that very advocate.

I made a line-up just for him, though I sprinkled the psychopaths in the our traditional line-up to make it more feasible.

Meier was visibly frustrated last night, he smashed his stick against the bench at one point.

Really wanted him to bury one.

Claude Giroux

Jake Evans

those would be my main deadline targets.

Although tbh I'd target Evans (or some other 4C) now. Get ahead of it like wash did

If the best players on the other team are in the morgue who will win? The team with players that are alive.

To be fair thr sociopath thing isn’t a gag so much as an ongoing protest against the stupidity of NHL officiating and supplemental discipline

Sounded like Dubas did Eller a solid and sent him to a preferred location (while opening up a roster spot to take a flyer on Tomasino). Not sure Montreal has the same incentive/motivation to do a trade in advance of the deadline barring an overpayment.

Usually the reason you don't see more trades early is that teams will have insane asking prices. Ie, Anaheim was asking for a 1st+prospect for Rickard Rakell but then had to settle for a 2nd+prospect. It wasn't a rental, but Washington apparently was asking for a 1st for Nic Dowd last deadline.
