What if the Devils signed Marner and them moved Bratt to Vancouver for Quinn?

Bratt is a lifer (or close to it) and there’s really no bored or stupid fantasy where I consider moving him. Fire Fitz.

My hunch is that Marner goes to Utah on a mammoth (ha!) contract. Ryan Smith is going to be flexing hard this offseason.

Bratt is way too good and entrenched in the core to be dealt away like that.

Echoing others, I doubt Bratt is valued enough around the league to match his real value. 6th round draft pick and small even seemingly influence some Devils fans at times.

Then layer in his contract which is likely a rare instance of an improving asset for a few years and it’s tough to move him.

If Marner also signed a good value contract, different story but I don’t see why he won’t sign a massive deal this offseason.

I have a bit of concern that they let it go this far with Luke Hughes on a new contract. No way they try to hamstring him in my view. I'm wondering if he is only willing to go five years on a contract to match Jack and the team wants more term?

Marner just doesn’t make any sense here.

He needs to go somewhere like Carolina or Winnipeg where there’s a solid overall team, but they could use another elite difference maker offensively.

Mercer has played up the lineup with Hischier and Meier. Late in the season he played with Bratt. He’s had the opportunity to be out there with high level talent and could still not elevate his play. If he’s in the top 6 next season (barring injuries), there’s a problem. I hate saying this as I was a big fan of the kid and I’d love to see him turn things around. It’s become evident that his sophomore season’s 27 goals were buoyed by a crazy heater. The last two seasons are indicative of the player Mercer is. He’s a third line player and basically a JAG. He’d also NOT a center. Extremely disappointing.
Would love to be proven wrong but I’m at the point now where I don’t really care if he’s traded.

I like Glass and think he would be great as a 4C. I can see him outperforming that role like McLeod did but by no means should Glass be COUNTED on for 3C duty. I don’t think we will go into the season with Cody slotted in that spot but agree with a previous poster…it will likely not portend good things ahead.

I am bullish on Gritsyuk and am confident he will grow into a top 6 role. A line of Meier-Hischier-Gritsyuk would be filthy!! I do not want Palat strapped to Jack and Bratt again. He doesn’t deserve that ice time. We need a LW worthy of the top 6 and it would be a big plus if he could play center. I thought McCann would fit like a glove and if he becomes available, that’s a trade which should be explored. He’s an absolute steal at 5m per year and is signed for two more seasons. The cap is going to be tight but if we are shrewd/creative, I believe we can make that work.

Ya I agree, but that's who I'd want via an offer sheet. It's gotta be something for the top 6 unless they get super creative like the Blues did last year with Broberg and Holloway
