Gotta say, I was thinking about that today. I’m not really sure. He’s injured a lot and he hasn’t truly gotten it together, but being paired with his pal Jack should be good motivation.

I've been talking this up for a while now. I have low expectations but one year and minimal money might be worth a shot.

New coach might change his availability (in either direction) but it's exactly the type of player we should be looking at. High skill. Buy low. No commitment.

This a real good post! It’s good that you made this real good post!

Why would Marco Rossi sign an offer sheet to play here? He is blocked by 2 centers forever.

Minnesota has more cap space than us even with Faber’s raise. ~13m of dead cap space clears up for them on top of the 7.5m increase.

OMG look at those dated production values. That must be from like dawn of the TV age. What’s on next, Howdy Doidy? You must be over 30 old man. Stop your senile old ramblings and let those of us who are vibrant and young do all the talking.

Because 1 of them is hurt, often significantly, he can play up the line up, he can play W, and who knows if Nico stays "forever" although I certainly hope he does. Plus Minnesota has kind of been dicks to him from the reports that have been floating around.

If you think you're finding a bottom pairing vet dman, a top 9 winger, AND a 3C for 9 million dollars combined prepare to be in shock on july 1st.
Realistically for a dman we just need a plug in until Kovy is healthy. We don't need to be spending any big money there. (Hope to the heavens we trade Dillon also) As for 3C I actually prefer to get a higher end one (more like a low end 2C) so we can start rolling 4 lines again (also to play 2C for when Hughes inevitably blows out his shoulder). We get 9 million off the books from Hamilton. Spend 6 mill on 3rd line center, we just dropped 1 mill on Grits who is projected to be a top 9 winger. That leaves 2 mill left over for a 7th dman. Boom there's your 9 million and the roster looks much better. This is what we're looking like right now for next season when healthy IF we traded Hamilton
Xxx-Nico-Meier
Grits-Hughes-Bratt
Palat-Xxx-Mercer
Cotter-Glass-Noeson

Hughes-Pesce
Siegenthaler-Nemec
Dillon-Kovy

Expect Luke to possibly make another leap forward and same with Nemec. If Nemec can play how he did in the playoffs all year round wow what a stud we would have.

Might be thinking way too much into it, but with the Devils retaining on Frederic and Tanev last deadline, I wonder if they were allowed to have any contact with both players.

After 23-24, the Devils went out and signed Pesce, Dillon, and then traded for Kovacevic. I would have to imagine they would’ve had interest in Tanev too from a stylistic standpoint.

Likewise, they retain on Frederic this deadline and, in theory, he’s a player Fitzgerald may target as a depth forward in free agency.

Perhaps part of the incentive to being the third retention slot is that Fitzgerald is allowed to have contact with the agent/player to gauge their interest come July 1st?

Zetterlund isn't top 6 forward for good team and I don't think he is 50-60! Points player. He has one of the worst on ice numbers for SJ and he wasn't really productive in NJ and ott in bottom. I believe he should be good enough middle six forward if he will play with very competent center. Zetterlund is good to play vertical physical hockey and shoot the puck with all prons n cons for this style of play.
There is a chance he will have more than he can really give. Devils should spend money for 3rd line center before, and its better to be a player who can play 2nd line role productively. Even if it will take more money.

NJ should be targeting players with breakout potential that fit the the team timeline. Let's say 22-27 yrs old on cheapish contracts.

I guess we have nothing to offer for Bourque. He is the same cheap talent for his team they need too. I would like too see him being traded to the Devils btw. He will sign cheap bridge deal. I believe they like their Harley - Heiskanen duo to make a trade for PP defenseman.

Bourque is an RFA and not seeing much ice time. An offer sheet would be the way to go.

I don't think offersheets are working strategy this sumer and next summer because of rising cap.
I'm worry about Nemec, we have some players who can be targeted too.

May be if Bourque wants more than Dallas can offer, Devils will find agreement for a trade? Thier defense is good but definitely has some options for upgrade. Outsude Heiskanen and Harley

They have Lindell. He's a top 4 Dman on basically any team in the league. They also have Lian Bischel, the giant Seiss defensman who is having a good rookie season and getting consistent playing time in the playoffs. I doubt Nemec will be on their radar. Borque would still be wpr tr h looking into trading for though.

Would any of you make this trade:

To NJ:

Mason McTavish

to Anaheim

Mercer
Casey
25 2nd

For me it is a no brainer. A big scoring 22 year old LW for Hughes and Bratt. I love Mercer, but here is an example I would let him go.

I talked about Casey, not about Nemec. Or even more about Siegs, Kovy etc. Nemec for Bourque is a bad trade.

Yes, but why would Anaheim?
  • They get worse and older at forward.
  • They get a dynamic defenseman who may not defend well at the NHL level.
  • They get a draft pick that has a low chance of ever mattering.
That’s a pretty easy no from me if I’m Anaheim.

Sounds like a lot from our perspective. His production has been OK.

On the other hand I doubt Anaheim is looking to move him.

What if my 2nd becomes a 1st.

Mercer, 1st in 26 and Casey
