Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - offseason edition

This team is run by inbred Pejorative Slurs holy f***. Get rid of guys that took the team from Swiss cheese on the back end to a top defensive team with one of the best PKs. Do these dummies realize the D that was so good on the PK was completely decimated come playoffs?

How about getting rid of your dogshit scouting team and whoever is involved with the horrid draft decisions

ROGALSKI SURVIVES? @Bleedred
I mentioned this a few weeks ago.

There apparently was a significant change in the goaltending department last offseason. But it appears Scott Clemmensen took the bullet for it and not Rogalski, and he was replaced by Manny Legace.

The Devils never announced the dismissal of Clemmensen for some reason. I only just found out 2-3 weeks ago that he was now listed as a goaltending scout for the Rangers and was hired by them last summer after being let go by us.

this means no more excuses on PP and PK

i really hope our new pp has a lot more movement
I was under the impression that Colliton ran the power play.

And that Chris Taylor (and Sarge) had some other role. Teams typically have 3 or 4 assistant coaches and then a goalie coach. And that’s not counting the video guys and strength and conditioning, etc.

I was surprised when Chris Taylor wasn’t let go at the end of last season, as he seemed to be Lindy’s personal hire. I guess they just opted to keep him until his contract expired.

I’m assuming McGill got a 3 year deal when he was hired in 2022 and Chris Taylor probably got an extension along with Lindy.

They forgot to announce the hiring of the new strength and conditioning coach.

Regarding Chris Taylor - I think he wanted to rejoin Lindy in Buffalo last year, but it’s pretty well known that Pegula wouldn’t let Ruff pick his assistants. Seems like he was just biding his time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to Buffalo in some capacity this summer.

McGill is kind of puzzling, he seemed to be the one guy in the staff that consistently did his job.

This is insane.
I prefer trading him for future considerations no retention obviously, but it's really hard to know what the options are for NJ this offseason with his 10 team trade list, and that's a move I can be ok with just to clear cap.

I repeat, this is insane.

I would trade Dougie for future considerations if we could this summer -

Think DAL for Dumba (no retention) would be a fabulous deal

A huge source of the issues with the team was their 3C was Haula who was barely a replacement level player all season.

His advanced stats stunk, he went a huge chunk of the season without registering a point.

If Fitz does only one thing all offseason, it has to at least be upgrading the 3C position.
He also spent his season being a piss baby

Okay now you see, lol, there is always someone who has to go to the extreme. Dougie is the odd man out. I am not GIVING him away. Nor should we have to. At worst he trade him and lose in the deal because Fitz and crew like someone (ex: Schmid/Holtz for Cotter and a 3rd). Hamilton will get something back. The trade you actually sugested for Evan Rodrigues was a solid offer also. We retain a c

"Guys, we didn't score enough goals this past season, how do we fix that"

"Let's give away the guy who had the highest rate of goals for of any dman in the league by a significant margin for nothing"

I don't think Dougie is going anywhere until next offseason anyway. You're going to have a hard time getting anybody to take him for 3 more years. The cap floor for 2026-27 is projected at almost 77 million, with a floor the following season at almost 84 million. I think you can convince somebody who needs to add cap in that situation to take the last 2 years of his contract.

Also, note, for all the bitching, Hamilton was winning his 5v5 minutes by a significant margin (as always)

I don’t even know if you’d be able to pawn him off onto a team looking to hit the floor. He has a 10 team trade list. Idk if he’s putting bottom feeders on that list.

I don’t give a f*** if he’s given away if you can’t get value back for him. The 9 mil in cap space is needed more than Dougie. If you can’t get anything then so be it.

The only somewhat justifiable way you can run back next year with Dougie is if you can get off of Palat and good luck with that one. You can’t get off of Palat then at best you’re running back basically the same exact team with Gritsyuk inserted and then hopefully Haula upgraded. Might as well throw in the towel already.
