He’s the ideal free agent target. “Free agent” is the operative phrase, which means he probably won’t come cheap or at a manageable number of years. Plus I think he’s interested in other teams. Maybe Fitz can pry a 3C from a trade.

I think the reclamation project route is the way to go. the acuisition cost is not extreme and if the player is in a situation to succeed and has a bit of untapped potential it can work out. Look at Cotter. He was solid and maybe can improve from here. I like him in a bottom six role. Same with Glass. He offers some lineup flexibility and maybe has a bit more to give with a full training camp. Find another young player that has some talent and wore out his welcome elsewhere and fits the mold of what they are trying to do.

I wonder if you could pry away a guy like Tomasino or Krebs for fairly cheap. Dellandrea is another one. I get that Glass is already a low risk flyer but wouldn't hate trying to unlock more value from blocked young guys.

A lot probably depends on what Gritsyuk gives you, and I don't know what Fitz can do to emulate the Reinhart / Bennett - type of moves we need, but reputation signings / trades just can't be the MO. We're in too much of a cap squeeze, you need to get crazy value from your depth.

I think some of these guys' ship has already sailed. Krebs is another Boqvist - soft-minute scorer, maybe a center, maybe not, probably not worth paying for. Tomasino already got moved once, I don't see why Pittsburgh would move him. Dellandrea had a horrible year with San Jose, it wouldn't stun me if San Jose just bought him out, he seems destined for the AHL/NHL shuttle.

Glass was a move that nobody really saw coming, that's the sort of thing I'd like to see more of.

I tried looking at potential 3C options via trade. Friends, the options are not good.

Colorado might be a match. There are rumors that they want to move one of Colton or Coyle, plus not get any contracts back. Both of those guys could be had for picks and/or mid level prospects. I know Colton has a solid run at some point with TB at center. Not sure how much he has played with the Avs.

I'm definitely fine with him being the 4C. Has a good defensive game. Would even overpay him for that role a little bit, I think.

But he doesn't have enough offensive pop to be a 3C on this team. We desperately need a 3C with some offense that can fill in as a 2C. Glass is definitely not that guy. You're gonna have pay for it, but that's just kinda the way it is at this point.

With all due respect...OVERPAY!!!??? The qualifying offer is an overpay. Are you willing to go more than that? Give him Haula's money???

We need to go big and spend real money on impact players. If Glass wants to stay here for $20, fine. If not, I'm sure he'll enjoy a trip back to Pittsburgh where he played big minutes on a team gunning for a Cup.

Last year at this time, if I asked everyone to name 700 current NHL players you would want on the Devils, Cody Glass would never have been mentioned.

Now he's a MUST HAVE.

Devils need to trade to sign cheap backup who is capable to save 90% of 5on5 shots. Daws should be hide on massive wave of waivers.
Glass has 2.5 mil QA and it’s okay for good fourth line center who can replace third line center for some games. We need both 4th line center who is good to play third line center role, and third line center who is good to play second line center role if we need to.

If Devils will retain 2mil from 6 mil of Palat, they will have ~8mil. May be they should to think about trade Kovy or Dillion and sign Dumo for less. May be try to think about trading retained Gibson for Markstrom. It’s better to trade Dougie if some option will be on the table,

Absolutely. I see people waiting something unreal, expectations are out of the way, especially with so many free money on the market and limited options to buy.

Ok totally explains why they numbers were different haha. Personally that should be MacD contract. They should spend the 14 million on the RFAs and the UFAs. Send MacD down use for Grits spot. Plus 800k is up there for Lamm and we dont know if he will make the team or not.

I believe Devils will sign another player with the same money and the winner will win the spot, loser will be send to AHL/Europe.
Unfortunately Devils have no other option for upgrading the roster without a trade for one or more player out.
