Would think van would want a puck mover in return which tends me to lean Nemec or CaseyMy thought has been Silayev going to Van.
Casey has skill but there a reason why defensemen his size tend to not make it

It’s going to take at least that level of value to dump his contract, unless the Devils are eating some of the contract. It is not going to cost a 1st round pick to get rid of Palat.
mna, these are just bad zakes, all around. got to love it, when fans overreact and make every dmen worse then they are just to proof their point. we had one of of the best d corps in the league. 25 games into it the season dougie was stating in a postgame interview: dont worry, i am gonna get there, yet jos shot and acceleration never really improved. your looking backwards when it comes to our young d and dougie instead of anticipating. point remains, it should be done within a year anyway and if we miss the last possibility to do so, their will be no necessary upgrades upfront, no quinn and no cup. that risk outweighs everything imo. a better forword group will give our other d a better chance to move to puck and you just sign someone cheaper do replace dougie on you 3rd pair like other teams do. deangelo, grelcyk, schmift might all be available and cost you between 2 and 4mPeople really wanna move Dougie when the issue with the defense is 3/4 of it can't move the f***ing puck which is an issue and why we weren't generating 5 on 5 even when healthy.
Sieg - Grenade handler black hole offensively
Kovy - Grenade handler carried heavy by Siegs, could be another god awful contract we should've never given out in the first place. black hole offensively even when playing good d
Dillon - Grenande handler and just bad all around, horrible contract
Nemec - too inconsistent to tell what he is and is looking like a bust
Luke - has the talent, fell off hard for 2 months.
Casey - overwhelmed when ever he played
Dougie - our best offensive weapon on the back end from shooting to breakouts and offensive generation.
Pesce - good defensively, was not great offensively, super slow.
A soon to be 33 year old with 5 years left on his deal?I'm very interested in seeing what Philly thinks of Couturier, if that thing was just a spat with Tortorella or if they're actually moving him. He could be the long-term defensive 3C to take some weight off Nico. 5 years kind of scares me with his injury history, but I think being a center and our biggest position of need I'm fine with it (can always LTIR if necessary). 7M cap hit is going to not be a huge problem with the exploding cap and I can't imagine he wants to stay around in PHI for the rebuild.
If you could find someway to make a Hamilton+/Couturier+ deal work I'd do backflips. PHI gets out of a lot of term by absorbing a bit more short term cap, which they don't really care about, and get a guy they can flip for picks in a year or two at the deadline. Their defense sucks balls and if we wait until after July 1st when we pay his bonus then Philly is only has to pay him ~14.5M in actual salary over the duration of his last three years.
IDK if he'd waive for Philly but bad contract swaps happen all the time and think there's reasons both teams might be interested in this. Also the Flyers organization is just dumb as a general rule so even if they're not interested they might just do it anyway.
My complete proposal was Dougie + Silayev.Would think van would want a puck mover in return which tends me to lean Nemec or Casey

A good faceoff guy, but wasn't used much defensively. About 30 sec's a game on the PK. 57% o-zone start. The O-zone starts can be partly attributed to baby sitting Michkov (68%) but just the same, he wasn't playing heavy minutes.
If it was 2 or 3 years left maybe, but I'm not doing 5. Not at near $8 mil.
I think if we pay a 3rd team to retain some it should be doable. Say we retain 1 mil and trade him and a 2nd to Calgary who retains 2.5 mil. A team like the Panthers might be interested. It will improve their already amazing depth, and Palat can play in cruise control until the playoffs. Bet Calgary could get a 4th or 5th from Florida for a 2.5mil Palat. They also have 3 retention spots left and we seem to have a good relationship with them.Palat look immovable to me.
Stranger things have certainly happened, but it seems like a very big stretch that anyone would be interested in him at all.
I'm giving Poulter the upper hand because he's been in the AHL for a couple years. Malek may be the better guy, but I'm not confident in a 23 year fresh in the US goalie as the #3 right out of the gate.
There was some talk here that he would be claimed, or maybe the risk isn't worth it, but depending upon what we could possibly get back, (could we get more then a 4th?) maybe it's worth trying to sneak him through. Assuming we bring in a vet #2.
Couturier is 33??? Jesus Christ I am old.
Daws would 100% be claimedI would be absolutely shocked if someone claimed Daws during preseason when roster spots are a premium and he has almost no NHL value.
What does Philly being stuck with a LTIR Ellis have to do with anything?
The Marleau trade/buyout got the Canes a 1st. (They had to pay the signing bonus.)

If by “substantial picks” you mean a 1st? Still don’t see where he goes.
I think we’re f***ed.
Maybe we buy out Palat.
Maybe we’ll see a terrible Mercer trade (two 2nds, warm body, b prospect) in order to afford our wildly expensive defense.
Add in different bottom six forwards who won’t improve our 5v5 offense in any material way.
My expectations are very low at this point but I obviously would love to be proven wrong.
Edit: I will add that I’ve been fighting the flu for most of the week so my mood ain’t great lol. Lot of “I’m tired boss” energy right now.
Daws would 100% be claimed

Hadn't seen Gibson's name in awhile. Looks like he had a pretty good season. It'd probably take an injury. Most teams are going to have their NHL duos in place early in the offseason. When we lost Wedgewood in 2021, Arizona had just lost Carter Hutton due to injury. When Anaheim claimed James Reimer this past season, it was right after John Gibson got hurt. And then they dumped Reimer when Gibson was good to go and Buffalo reclaimed Reimer.
Well, turns 33 fairly early in the season. December b-day.Couturier is 33??? Jesus Christ I am old.

Does that pump his value back up a little?
Still only 31(turns 32 next month).
I'm guessing the Ducks like having him as a mentor/veteran back up to Dostal, so they probably aren't in a rush to move him.
What type of trade value do we think he has?Daws would 100% be claimed
We'd save more retaining 50% in a trade.A buyout for Palat this year is such a bad idea, it has to be an absolute last resort and Fitz has a great use for the money, because it only saves $2.5M this season.
Could we attach Daws?Palat is legitimate, veteran leadership. Cap is skyrocketing. The idea you need a first attached for two years of that is silly lmao
Gibson had a strong 29 games this year, but he had been putting up bad numbers for a half decade plus.Seems like Gibson has been angling for a move for a couple seasons. Problem has been that Verbeek (and his predecessor) have held a high price tag. Anaheim's owner isn't known to be a crazy spender, so they might not have been down to retain on Gibson for 3+ seasons. Now that it's down to two, maybe it's more palatable to them. Mix in a rising cap and Edmonton might be able to fit Gibson.
Anaheim tends not to be a cap team, so they could use Gibson's money towards somebody else. Rumor du jour is that they'll be targeting Aaron Ekblad if he makes it to July 1. The Markstrom template (two years partly retained for 1st+something) seems like something that could work. Although Edmonton doesn't have a first until 2027 and they don't have a great prospect pool.
Agree - Cody Glass is a league minimum dollars, 14th forward. He can be replaced with a sawhorse.Crappy reporting. More like in 19 games he had 2G, 5A, 7pts, 19 shots. And a whopping total of 1 assist in his final 12 games. This is the production he put up while knowingly playing for a contract in a few months. Not great Bob.
But I look forward to this place justifying Fitz stupidly signing him for like $3m and term out of desperation and penciling him in as the 3C. Mentally preparing myself for it now.![]()
