Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I'd qualify him. It's only like 850k. If he takes that, it's fine for a 4th line guy and I don't hate him as a 4th line player. Or let him go to arb if he wants and the team can walk away from a decision if they want. it gives you a second buy out window for markstrom if that's really something you want to consider

The Devils cannot walk away from an arbitration award for Cotter, there's no way it will come close to the threshold at which teams can walk away. They should not qualify him for this reason.

I don't know if this is the place for this or not but I have a legit question on analytics when it comes to players.

Let's say the analytics show a player is a 10/10 and we sign him. He comes in here and stinks like Haula. What happens? How do we reconcile that?

Likewise, let's say the eye test, gut feeling, insider knowledge, or previous team success say a player is a 10/10 and we sign him. He comes in here and stinks like Haula. What happens? How do we reconcile that?

These personnel changes are great. I want a major move in the offseason though, otherwise I will have no confidence going in.

We take away the guy who made the decision.

Can we take away the model that brought in Haula?

Good. I hope he continues to drain the swamp
With the draft coming up in a few days, it indicates we are going into it with the new GM acting as his own head of evaluation.

I presume with some kind of a brain trust among the scouts and analytics team.

The moves made around draft time and the first day or three of free agency can very much determine next years roster. Last few years there’s been a feeding frenzy and maybe not so much action afterwards as time goes by ?

Bring Zacha home!!!

That's a sentiment I never thought I would read considering he was persona non grata leading up to the Haula trade. How the turn tables.

Fat ass Tkachuk gets into the HHOF before my goat, my hero, Patrik Elias????

Stupid a f***ing game.
I'll say exactly what i said on the main board:

No disrespect intended to Pekka and Carey but Patrik Elias was someone, as a player who won two Stanley Cups and who is the all time leader for the Devils in goals, game winning goals, assists, and points. Elias achieved that in a period when the Devils weren't known for goal scoring and were putting more defensive minded teams on the ice.

The only Czech winger who did more than Patrik is freakin' Jaromir Jagr but he gets snubbed for two albeit A+ goal goaltenders, who didn't achieve nearly what Elias did at the NHL level is pretty disappointing.
