They aren't quitting. Heineman going down leaves Evans with no one on his line. So 2 lines are useless and the 2nd line isn't doing enough.. Just cover the 1st line and the game is over.
Losing Heineman was hard but every team deals with injuries. The effort and execution have disappeared, you can't convince me they are as bad as we are seeing.

This season as gone to shits in the sense of us making the playoffs/being high in the mix, but it is still a success because they got to play meaningful and high stress games later in the season.

Now I won’t raise a banner for it, but at least there’s that.

Now; clean house of UFA’s, get those high prices and let’s get better players this summer. No point in dwelling on it, continue the work of the rebuild.

Caufield had a shit ton of goals away from Suzuki in his first two seasons. He had almost half a dozen playing limited time with mike f***ing hoffman ffs

Here's a list of those who assisted on his 58 goals in his first two seasons under MSL:

Suzuki 22
Unassisted 7
Dach 7
Wideman 6
Petry 5
Hoffman 5
Drouin 4
Ghule 4
Harris 4
Matheson 3
Savard 3
Monahan 3
Anderson 3
Edmundson 3
Pitlick 2
Armia 2
Gallagher 2
Dvorak 2
Toffoli 1
Poehling 1
Kovacevic 1
Evans 1
Perry 1
Staal 1

Caufield had like 50 goals in his first 82 games under MSL. And what was the first thing MSL did? Take Caufield out of the bottom 6 and put him with Suzuki. Before that he wasn't producing and looked lost. Confidence is key. And he got it back playing with Suzuki, just like Dach did before his injury. He found his game pkaying with Suzuki and Caufield. Same with Slaf last year.

It absolutely makes a difference playing with skilled players. And confidence is key.

Having said that, I'm not saying Laine is playing well and is all the way back from his injury and lost time.

The idiotic narrative surrounding Montembeault as a poor goaltender when he's been an above average starter for years has become complete uncoupled from reality.

As soon as Dobes appeared Montembeault was a dead man walking in terms of fan affection. Don't read into it too much, we Habs fans cannot tolerate a goalie controversy very well.

I think it has more to do with the fact that he's been awful this season.

It seems the average # of man-games lost is 250-350. Losing a bottom6er and finding the season unravel means only one thing: this is a very bad team with very bad (overrated) players.

We have to find a way to disentangle his personal abilities and qualities from the circumstances in which he finds himself and that are out of his control.

Another positive besides Beck is I'm really liking a lot of things from Newhook's game recently. He could be a good bottom sixer going forward. Good speed, work ethic, and transition game.
