Not even worth beating a dead horse at this point. The team has faded away from being a top 5ish team like they eere for a long stretch. It's been a downward trend. Really blows my mind still how good the Caps are while this team continues to run out of excuses. The Devils need a trade to just trad water while other teams play better than us and bolster their lineup.

I honestly got fooled in December thinking this team had it figured out and would solidify their game until the end of the season. I think they're a good team when healthy and when they stay within their game, but the way they came out of the Christmas break was super disappointing and it feels like they have trouble finding their game consistently right now.

Still a lot of season left and the 4 Nations break will do wonders, but I'm a little anxious to see how the season unfolds. Hopefully the team finds their groove back before the end of the season.

Fitz has done a great job with contracts.

He has done a fine job not totally f***ing up most high draft picks (most.)

He has been horrific at building organizational depth at forward. He held onto Lindy too long. He waited way too long last year to address goaltending. He’s waiting way too long this year to address the complete dearth of NHL caliber forwards. He got a poor return for Toffoli last year.

His biggest deadline acquisition has spent 2.5 seasons of hockey in a Devils sweater acting like teenagers at bible camp: playing “get it so close but don’t put it in!”.

I have lost all confidence in his ability to build a stanley cup contending hockey team. The devils have been relatively LUCKY with health and just look at what these lines look like. They should embarrass anyone who actually believed this team had Cup aspirations.

The hamilton contract is awful. The palat contract is awful. The Dillon AND pesce contracts are redundant, and certainly some of that money should have been allocated to addressing the worst bottom-6 forward group in the national hockey league.

The Devils deserve better than Tom Fitzgerald.
Pesce is fine, but Dillon is a hitting Brendan Smith and at about 4 times as much and one more year than what we were giving Smith. He would have been sweet a couple years ago, but he isn't any good anymore.

I think this year was certainly a ''Save the world or you will be the first to perish'' for him if we somehow drop out of the playoffs.

I mean, we SHOULDN'T, but we have to have a MUCH better record the final 28 games than we did over these last 16 or however many games it's been.

We are in worst game of the season territory.

Nico missing is the only reason we probably can't consider it worst game of the season contender.

But this has been utterly miserable.

This isn't one of those ''Ahh, we just couldn't finish!'' we're getting dominated all game long.

We had one of our worst game of 22-23 later in the season in Buffalo. We also had a horrible loss late in the year here last year. I think we blew a multi-goal lead in that one.
It's hard to win a game with no one playing defense

think they make the playoffs?
They SHOULD

Would I bet a whole ton on it? We've lost A LOT of games that we were favored to win in the last 5 weeks (I haven't bet on any, by the way) so I wouldn't really feel too comfortable to tossing anything of real value into the one armed bandit.

The schedule gets much tougher after the break, as in we don't have a 3 week stretch where we're playing nothing but the Flyers, Sabres, Canadiens, Pens, with a few playoff teams sprinkled in. That might actually favor us with how we show up to play these types of teams.

It's hard to win a game with no one playing defense
All we've been doing is playing defense.

Allowing chance after chance after chance after chance. A 2 minute PK that didn't even leave our end.

''You would think having Nico in this game prevents one of those Thompson chances''

It took me 3 seconds (which is too long) to realize he was talking about Nico Hischier and not Nico Daws lol.

Next on the hot seat is a GM known for handing out lengthy old-man contracts like Halloween candy, and for giving away way too many valuable prospects and draft picks to see another lousy lineup getting beat up by bottom dwellers like Philadelphia and Buffalo.
