Nico is a quintessential Devils forward straight out of an earlier era. He would not have looked at all out of place in the top 6 of one of the Cup winning squads.

I can think of no higher compliment for the way he plays the game.

I need to see him lift the cup so bad. Kid does everything the right way and does it at a high level.

Players like that deserve the ultimate reward

Cotter is a 4th liner to me in an ideal situation. A line with him Lazar and Bastian could be a decent playoff 4th line.

Would like to see us add a winger to push Palat down. Or also wouldn't mind us adding someone like Gourde potentially, though I think we look for a top 6 winger.
I think that would be a very good 4th line.

And while improving on Palat's spot on the top line would be ideal, I don't see it necessary as that line has been very good, it would also be fairly costly. Assuming the line continues to play well in the regular season, I think you have to let Palat a run in the playoffs with that line. It is one of the big reasons we brought him in.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

The Eastern bubble is such a joke that the Penguins have jumped into a playoff spot for the first time this year, maybe for the only time this year. They end tonight in the second wild card spot.

Of course this is just on a technicality. Ottawa still holds it based on points percentage.
That wild card 2 race may limp doen to the wire

I would like us to have an alternative option for the top 6. We have been shut out a number of times, think we need some depth options and I'm not sure Palat will hold up in a top 6 role all year. Even if he does, Mercer might not.

Do the blues have a habit of pulling their goalie early?

They had the net empty for their goal with 10 minutes left (something I think may have been glossed over on the broadcast), and then pulled their goalie with about 5 minutes left again

Good thing mercer doesn't play in our top 6

We're also one of the top teams in the league thus far.

I'm more of the mindset that we can wait and see if these guys will start contributing more offense. Palat's actually on a bit of a run now. Had a bunch of good chances tonight.

Is this one of those Nico 3rd line jokes?

Big reason why winning the division is a prize worth going after.

Pretty large gulf between those wild card teams and someone like Carolina or Washington

No real reason to rush a trade while things are working and prices probably are way too high.

Worth waiting and seeing how the market shakes out a bit.

A division win will do wonders

Who ever gets 1 in this division is going to dog walk the wild card while 2-3 are gonna be in a dog fight

I think it's even more important this year than it generally is. The 2/3 Metro seeds could easily end up finishing with like the like 2nd and 4th best records in the conference or something stupid like that. Currently the Caps/Devils/Canes are the top 3 in pts% in the conference and 1st, 5th, and 6th in the league.

Pleasantly surprised with this defense. These next 3 games are winnable. Allen is prolly gonna get a start soon which could be a bad thing depending on which Allen shows up...

I actually agree with how they did it. you're down three goals in the third and you have an o-zone faceoff, take advantage. That's much better than trying to pull the goalie on the fly

2 goals down but I also agree with them pulling the goalie early in a spot that makes sense.

Did it make the devils fans more nervous that they pulled their goalie early or would devils fans have preferred the Blues keep their goalie in net until 1-2 minutes left?

For me, I get more nervous if the other team aggressively tries to tie it up by pulling the goalie. Sure, the game may effectively end earlier but the opponent now has a better chance to actually make good on their comeback.

Brent Sutter did that a long time ago too with us in a game against Carolina and we scored 2 quickly to make it a game. Let me see if I can find the game in the box score. Shouldn't be too hard lol

Might've been this game, not totally sure, lol
