It's crazy how many people thought Luke was a pure nepotism pick. Luke is 10 months younger than Owen Power despite being in the same draft class. It's nuts that he's easily as good if not better than the #1 overall pick from his draft class despite being essentially one full year behind in his development time.

I wish we could see what Luke would look like completely away from Smith. Power's been Buffalo's best D by far this year. They're awful without him on the ice. 54% xGF with no other D even at 50% and the team under 48% and a 44% without Power on the ice. Luke is 73% in his 43 minutes without Smith

I'm going to confess today.

I truly did not think Luke Hughes was going to be this solid defensively at this early stage of his career. I knew the skating and offense was there, but man he is really solid overall in all aspects of the game.

He looks like a legit #2 guy and could be gunning for #1 by seasons end I am guessing. I could only believe with my eyes and now you have shown me.

The Blues will commit 8 egregious penalties but only be called for 3 since the Devils will score on 2 of those.

Once a team scores some PP goals, the ref looks at his game management book and knows he can put his whistle away.

I think the Refs do indeed have a Penalty-calling Quota for each period of every game.

Power has been fantastic and Luke hasn’t performed better than him. Power has arguably been the Sabres best player while playing tough minutes.

Bagging on Power isn’t the way to go to praise Luke.

Yeah, I was defending Power more than expressing any issue with with our boy Luke.

I feel like Edvinsson and Clarke will pop up as comparisons, once they get to the NHL*, because we actually, infamously, passed on those guys.

Luke wasn’t in the running for 1OA and Power is basically a year ahead. I don’t get the fascination.

I hate the concept of “redrafts” though. They’re just list of the best players people. It’s too late, drafting is about the complete unknown.


*Assuming their teams don’t leave them chained in their AHL basement for years (I’m looking at you LA).
