Devil's Advocate Poll

Second option because Stoll would be gone. Kopitar - Carter - Eichel/McDavid - Shore. Mother Nature just pissed her pantsuit.

I will take McDavid over the playoffs this year. That way we can shed some contracts in the offseason (Williams, Stoll, Regher or Green, and big maybe, Richards), and retool around a generational talent. Having Kopitar, Carter, McDavid and Shore as our centers, we wont be fighting to barely make the playoffs anymore. Also, with Sutter's system, we should be competiting for the cup for several seasons with this young and yet experienced lineup.

You didn't say we'd win the cup so rather have McDavid.

That would be too obvious. Really curious to see what some of you think. I'm of the opinion that most people believe we don't have the team to win it this year - but that hasn't stopped the Kings from winning 2 in the last 3 years.

Pretty sure the majority is going to choose McDavid then

I think you take the top 2 pick because it set's up the franchise with a potential franchise player at a key position for the next 10+ years.

This years team is not nearly as strong as the 2012 or 2014 teams, doesn't mean they couldn't win, but there are huge question marks.

LOL - just trying to make sure. Maybe I should have sweetened the pot a little on the playoffs (minimum of West Conference Finals even it out?)

Would stick in my craw to deal with the devil like this, but take the budding superstar. Sacrifice the season.

Since there's no guarantee of a cup if we make the playoffs I'd take the guaranteed draft picks. Honestly, with the injuries/Voynov situation it'd be even harder to win than it was last year. I think if we get in there's a good chance of going deep but I just don't see us winning with all the holes in the damn this year. Not to mention that if we go deep in the playoffs this year it would be even more hockey and the team would be even more worn down, making it even more of a challenge to compete next season.

I'd take the McDavid/Eickel draft pick over making the playoffs this year. It'd bring better chances of long term success than making the playoffs this year.

But if it was a guaranteed cup this year or a guaranteed McDavid/Eickel pick, I'd take the Cup.

If you're new to the Kings you probably want to keep watching the playoffs, but if you've seen enough, getting McDavid/Eichel is pretty cool since they're generational players. I think it also depends on a little bit of pride in watching the team continuously making playoffs.

i'd say make the playoffs

why?

because it's a perfect year to make the playoffs

we'd have a first round matchup vs VAN or CGY...meaning if we play our game we should be heading to the 2nd round

from there...you'd face the winners between ANA/WIN or MIN ... again i'm confident we could take all 3

it's the Western Conference Finals that could be tricky facing either STL or CHI

but this year is as good as any and should be an easier playoffs than last year

Just the salty tears from the rest of the league if we somehow managed to get McDavid a year after hoisting the Cup would make it all worth it.

The LA Kings have a 1% chance to land either McDavid or Eichel, to the point they're best off making the 2015 NHL Playoffs, especially when I ran this lottery simulation this morning.

This simulation implies the LA Kings are just going to waste their efforts for tanking, especially when they're literally just 3 points away from a playoff spot, as of this post.

Realistically speaking, the Kings have to trade up to the Top 10 Spot just for any improved chance of landing McDavid or Eichel--even if they're gonna make the 2015 NHL Playoffs or not.

I just ran the simulator and the Kings won it 3 out of 10 times. That ends up being the thing in the end. We have at least a small chance of winning the lottery and anything is possible. Of course unlikely but possible. That said I can never root against my team making the playoffs so I am screwed on this one. I want us to make the playoffs and let whatever happen happen. I am not on the Eichel bandwaggon (though he will be good just not league leading so) and we could have MickeyD if we wanted to move Kopitar and most everything else to get him and I think that would suck too. Let Buff land the kids. Win the cup this year or next we are going to win one more with this core.

If we are talking about winning a lottery with 2% chance then the opposite choice should really be win the cup.

I don't think that would make for a very interesting poll. I don't think anyone here would vote for winning the lottery vs. the Cup. I think it would be closer if I said a minimum of a Western Conference final showing.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone said take McDavid as is would all but guarantee future cups or some ****
I would take the western conference final.

I'll take playoff games. I just don't have a hard on for prospects like so many people on here do. I remember when that was all there was to discuss around here. The future. The future is now. Get in and see what happens. There are no sure things in life. But one thing is certain. The Kings will not be winning the cup finishing in >9th place.

BTW, somebody else had made a remark in another thread but did anyone expect the Kings to win the Cup in 2012 or 2014? I wonder what this poll would've looked like then. Take the playoff games even with this bi-polar team.

I had high expectations last year going into the playoffs. Those expectations were wiped out 3 games into round 1.
I then had high expectation going into round two and that changed on a game by game basis.
I expected to lose to the hawks, and hit the roof when A-mart score.
I had high expectations going into the finals and was very happy when once again A-Mart scored.
I LOVE THE PLAYOFF ROLLERCOASTER
