Pretty much going rate for the goalie market these days. Vanecek is solid. Hope he can at least give us average goaltending, I’m confident he can.not what I expected. I don't care too much though. It's not outlandish

Same number as Georgiev. It does make it harder to fit in Blackwood on a long term deal if he blows him away next year and shows he's a bonafide starter but it's doable if necessary.well I was wrong on that one for sure...didnt think he'd get that much AAV
Yeah, I was thinking about $3 million a year, but thought it could be higher, but definitely couldn't see it being over $3.5 million. I wonder if the Husso deal (which SUCKS) was enough to inflate Vanecek/other goalies deals?well I was wrong on that one for sure...didnt think he'd get that much AAV
blackwood sealed his own fate with his actions and suckage. i’m here for vtec!

i love how they haven't been hired by a team and (i think ) are sticking to being independentWeirdly relieved because Vanacek is very pricey on Evolving Hockey’s model for some reason. So 3 years/3.4m feels fine.
Admittedly this is the first time they’ve done it and there’s less data to go by but they had his most likely contract (66%) at 4 years/5.354m. At 3 years it’s 5.172m. Not sure why it was so high but that was off-putting lol.
Kahkonen got 2 year/2.75m and they had him with 2 years at 2.779m. So bullseye.
They had Husso with 3 years at 4.514m and he got 3 years/4.75m from Detroit.
They had Campbell at 5 years/5.8m and he got 5 years/5m from the Oilers.
Kuemper came in less, they had him with 5 years at 6.402m and he took 5 years/5.25m. He likely understood that’s all the Caps could afford.
Casey Desmith gave the Pens a nice deal with his 2 years/1.8m when EH hockey had him at 2 years/2.45m.
They have Samsonov with one year at 2.149m and Toronto gave him 1 year/1.8m
And Evolving Hockey’s estimate *snicker* had Martin *giggle* Jones *chortle* with 1 year *cackle* at 1.557m *guffaw* but the Oilers signed him *peals of laughter* to a 1 year/2m deal *actual death*.
We need still need another goalie capable of playing 40 games...Whether it's Blackwood or someone else it's going to cost.Yeah, I was thinking about $3 million a year, but thought it could be higher, but definitely couldn't see it being over $3.5 million. This almost definitely seals Blackwood's fate beyond this year, unless he winds up having a GREAT season and Vanecek is the one that bombs out. Blackwood's qualifying offer is $3 million for next year and $6.4 million is way too much to spend on a goalie tandem where one of them has been SHIT for 2 of the last 3 years and potentially the last 3 years. If he has anything short of a remarkable season then he's probably getting Samsonov'd.
maybe one of our many goalie prospects will pan outWe need still need another goalie capable of playing 40 games...Whether it's Blackwood or someone else it's going to cost.
Maybe but are you going to possibly burn a season to find out?maybe one of our many goalie prospects will pan out

We were talking about what to do in the future if Blackwood is gone...the goalies this season are Blackwood and Vanecek whether we like that or not. I don't really know what you mean by "burning" a season...this is just the reality of where we're at right now.
repeating what's been said, but we have no choice but to do that (unless we can move tatar/johnsson) - we have a good chunk coming off the books next summer, and the UFA goalie crop looks a lot betterMaybe but are you going to possibly burn a season to find out?
What if Vanecek breaks out and can play 50 games? We shouldn’t be bringing back Blackwood because he can play 40 games. We need still need another goalie capable of playing 40 games...Whether it's Blackwood or someone else it's going to cost.
I like the move because we did not commit big money and long term for a goalie that had warts (Husso Keumper Campbell) . No way I woild habe paid what those guys got . They are way too risky - short sample sizes , injury history, getting up there in age .@Nubmer6 so... is Vanacek a reactional goalie?
I'm glad Fitz didn't give up any big assets for a goalie - it's almost the perfect show-me scenario wherein we aren't overpaying or dealing pieces to make a move that is still going to be largely dependent upon what types of shots we give up in front of him. I expect Blackwood to bounce back big, unless we are a complete horror show again like last year, and I expect Vanacek to play about the same as Blackwood does. So... tldr I'm hopeful. Great move.
We saw that exact scenario in 2020...Blackwood played 47 with a .915 SV% and we had nothing behind him...He managed to win 22 games and the rest of the goalies won 6 games. What if Vanecek breaks out and can play 50 games? We shouldn’t be bringing back Blackwood because he can play 40 games.
His last 55 games have been horrific. If that continues then he’s a complete no count for 40 games.
